I think this is the best possible situation for Vegas. Now every year Marner will go down with an injury around roughly March, and Vegas will have 12million to spend on new players and Marner will be back for game 1 of the playoffs lol.

People should now see it was never the players, it was the inept management, brainless Shanhan and Dufas wasted a good drafting and failed miserably to surround the talent with grit and leadership, like FLA did with TKACHOKE, Benette, Marchand. Marner will do great in Vegas because they already have leaders and winners that will show him. He will win a cup with Vegas, maybe 2. Leafs have no vision and no future. So what that they save money on Tavares. They now have money and no 100pt guy, Yes, he was not great in the playoffs, but now the leafs might not make the playoffs. if they have a bad 2 years, Matthews and Nylander will pull the ripcord. They are not spring chick and will not agree to be around for another rebuild, they should have just started it now and save a couple of years. Matthews might end up in Pitts under the guise of Crosby before he passes on the torch. I see Nylander on the Avs, they have shown interest in him
Very happy with this. I'll miss Marner. When he wins a cup with Vegas this year, I'll really miss him. But I should have missed him two years ago.

In games 5, 6, 7, 34 & 91 did absolutely nothing, yet Marner gets all the hate. Only leafs and leafs fans chase away a 5 time all star. Fans desperate for a Cup in the sport they love, turned to frustration and then anger and hatred. The leadership, GM 34 & 91 should have publicly defended Marner. Should have chastised the fans. It's a team game and Fla was the better. Time to improve.
Barkov and Tkacuk did not score a single goal in 7 v the leafs, I don't hear anyone saying they should go. It was Fla's 2nd and 3rd line that beat the leafs. That's on management (& Tavares).
Treliving said he wanted scoring from the D and could have had Montour for $7.1 instead he signed Domi & Kampf for $6.15. Dubas had strength down the middle with Kadri but he traded quality for quantity (Kerfoot & Barrie). It's always poor decisions by the Gm that gut the Leafs. The leafs have the worst management in league. Since 1967. Now it's even harder to build a winner without 16. Better hope they get Boeser or Ehlers or a 2C.
Trade jarnkrok, trade kampf, trade Reilly, with those 3 guys gone, and marner off the books with Roy coming in, we’d have a total of almost 18 million to work with in cap space. We could sign some major pieces to replace Reilly, and add a couple top 6 guys

So , how will this affect Mathews? I see a number of scenarios, Mathews breaks out and plays better than ever, he has mysterious injuries all year, Without Marner Mathews numbers fall, or Mathews sulks all year over Marner deal. We shall see. How will Marner do in Vegas? Vegas area fast, gritty, grinding determined team with StanleyCup winning experience, they will not put up will Mariners lack of playoff effort. He may have a tough go in that hard hitting division, where playing hockey in warm climates is an art in itself.
I’m a Knights fan so maybe I’m biased and just excited. But long before I even heard the rumor of Mitch coming to Vegas I have thought that Matthews is the Leaf’s biggest problem. It is hard to blame Mitch for not scoring later in the playoffs when his job is basically to set up the guy who never scores later in the playoffs. Like he was out scored by a very obviously injured Matthew Tkachuk in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Plus look at what an absolute monster Mitch was when Matthews was out this season.
Mark my words – Marner will be a huge playoff contributor for Vegas.
