Dubas basically said no 1 year deals
Yeah if they're going to do a decentralized draft format, it needs to be way better organized and in a more concise time frame. That was absolutely brutal to watch.
excited to see what dubas pulls out when he goes rfa fishing maybe a Nicholas Robertson?
I think the draft was fine, we added some size grit scoring/skill and getting Clifton who plays a rugged game is a bonus. All drafted players are gambles all trades are gambles and signings are gambles. that's life
Reading conflicting articles about the status of Ponomarev, CBS is claiming, according to Josh Getzoff of all people, Ponomarev isn't being tendered and his rights will be lost. Pensburg however, are reporting he has been tendered?!
First off, I wouldn’t view Kindel as a winger. If you’re analyzing the Penguins’ draft class in the context of their current prospect pool, you have to look at it holistically. Right now, their best center prospect is Tristan Broz and even then, his ceiling is uncertain. Ideally, he becomes a second-line guy, but realistically he’s likely a third-liner. After that, you’ve got Poulin, who's probably topping out as a fourth-liner.
So taking a high-upside swing on a player like Kindel, whose floor is likely a second-liner, is a smart move. Zonnon is almost certainly going to be an NHL player in a year or two, and his floor is a solid third-line role. Horcoff still has the most development ahead, but even he projects as an effective fourth-liner at worst. Injecting that kind of center depth into a barren pool is just smart drafting and asset management.
I’ll admit, I got caught up in mock draft season too. It’s hard not to when you have multiple top-15 picks, regardless of how “deep” the class is. But Dubas exceeded expectations with how he maneuvered through the draft.
The media will slap a letter grade on every draft based on projections alone. They don’t care about team needs or existing pipelines. Upset we didn’t land Eklund? McGroarty and Howe are arguably more exciting, high-event wingers with more sandpaper and grit. One’s NHL-ready now, and the other isn’t far behind. Disappointed we passed on Aitcheson? Tretheway and Peddle bring that same style of game but with fewer red flags to their 2-way game. Oh, and all of our first-rounders will probably see NHL ice before Aitcheson.
That’s how you execute an accelerated rebuild.
I totally agree Nick! I wasn’t impressed.
The thing about the NHL draft is that unless you have a top 5 pick, you really don’t know what you’re getting. You can’t rate a draft until these kids get a chance to show you what they have in the NHL
A Will Horcoff, Tanner Howe, Bill Zonnen third-line in two years, perhaps?
I would take a professional’s opinion on prospect rankings over a bunch of amateurs (including pro analysts who may have had the job but can’t get another position) consensus.
I’m not even sure they are going to sign placeholders to be honest. Unless they trade Hayes, Heinen, Acciari, Lizotte, etc. I can see them just using guys like Puustinen, Poulin, St. Ivany as “place holders” just to see what they got in them and fill out the team. I’m ok with a not so exciting free agency.
It's likely a bad bad draft class. Like it sounds like most of the 1st round this year would be 2nd rounders next season
draft was a mess, just go select 2 good plays at 11 and 12 but no dubas think's he's the smartest guy in the room and has to trade back and make thing's a million times more complicated then they need to be 😂
Need to look and get guys we can flip to Montreal, New Jersey, and Utah and Nashville. They will be buyers by trade deadline and all have 1sts to give
Josh yohe is also the bum claiming to be personal friends with Crosby and claiming Crosby wants out, so you need to call his bum butt out too
these are free agency, targets, tanner jeanott, klim kostin, isac lundestrom
Regardless of what twitter says, there’s no obvious pick at 11. Getting 13 guys is great. Odds are 3 guys in the first round will end up doing well.
The Penguins used 1st round picks on 1st Round talent.
But if the Penguins reached instead of taking the consensus better pick. They better get it right!
Just keep in mind.
MCGROARTY. CROSBY. RUST

Lol what a dumb podcast name for the penguins
I am a little nervous about Eklund and Aitchison but 4 other teams passed on them after pens did. Also I hope we keep rust to mentor the younger players after Sid retires eventually
The draft was uninspiring. Zonnan and Kindel are good first round players, but more the back end of the first round. Horcoff is not. Stop trying to be a genius Dubas and just pick the obvious players in Aitcheson and Eklund. But instead, he got cute and took flyers on several players that no one else had ranked highly.
Also, sometimes listening to Horwat articulate his thoughts gives me a headache. Prepare your sessions and your talking points my guy. It will help you. You are not a natural public speaker (like your counterpart is), so gather your thoughts clearly. It will help you stay organized in your thoughts.
