All the star Vegas players that have won are not going to like Marner getting paid more than they do! Marner has won NOTHING! This could be catastrophic the Knights morale.

Mark Stone is a different leader, Mitch is going to come here and finally be allowed to grow into the role. Jack Eichel is ready to take over when Stone retires. Jack, Mitch, Hanifin and Theodore are the new core 4 that they will Inherit when Captain Mark Stone retires. All of them under the same 7-8 year contract. Next off season we sign Remus. I still think the culture starts with Matthews. He just doesn’t have that winning drive it seems like. Coming from a non-Toronto fan here. I don’t think Marner was the biggest issue on the team
As a human, I wish Mitch the best going forward. I hope he and his family enjoy Vegas and all goes well. As a hockey fan, I’m happy this is finally over and at least we got some return. Yeah, I’m being petty here, but I also hope he never tastes victory on the ice. Out of my 35ish years of watching hockey, I can’t remember a player with more talent and less heart. “Messy” is probably the nicest way you can describe his legacy.

The end of year analysis for next season will be interesting. Will it be Nylander or Matthews who is no longer "right for the Leafs"? Or most likely Riley. Toronto has passionate fans but there always has to be a goat for the team's lack of playoff success.

Hey Jesse! I always wondered why He just didnt request a trade when he lost his love for the team. I think your spot on with everything you said but it goes deeper than just Shanny. Marner could have told the team "Look I dont want to be here anymore trade me." He had the money still , he coul dhave even done the day after he signed thta last contract with Dubas. Dubas never made moves with the core four not just because of Shanahan it was also that Marner was a 100 pt player. Your right this divorce should make everyone happy.

Jesse you didn't go in to the most important details of this contract. 2019 Leafs: 6 years flat cap mini era 13.37% of year 1 cap. 2025 Golden Knights: 8 years. cap projected to go way up: 12.57% of year 1 cap. This is a HUGE discount compared to his previous contract !
