Leaf's media only knows how to scapegoat without real analysis and facts. Biggest problems are as follows. The League is too big and there isnt enough real talent to go around. The league is full of bottom 6 forwards playing in top 6 positions, also too many true second and third pairing defensemen playing in first pairing positions, and only a dozen legit number one goalies. Hey JD, let me ask you something, dont you think if more elite assets existed in the league that Shanahan wouldnt have traded one of core? The reality is the Leafs would have traded Mitch or Willie and gotten the likes Roy or prospects and picks and capspace just the same..and btw if Rantanen had been available a year or two earlier that would have been a done deal, but that came too late and it was a rare situation. 20 yrs ago the mantra in this town wss that the Leafs couldnt draft and develope high end players, and in the shanaplan years it was that they held on to them. Ah–taxes, pressure, and criticism on top of it all.
Marner needed to play with tough line mates to be good during the playoffs. For example 4 Nations when he played with Bennet and McDavid. As great as Matthews is he is soft. Two soft players on the top line can't work in the playoffs.

Leaf fans portray all theirs as walk on water good Second Bubbles Treliving & walk on water portrayed coach. Deja Vu with Treliving and what happened with the Flames. And if both Bubbles & Berube were as good as portrayed they would both be with the teams/organizations they were part of. Thats reality folks.
I am a Florida supporter, and I wonder why barely no Toronto fans calling out that Florida are so extremely good and yet you pushed into game 7. I have respect for Toronto, you played better than Edmonton did but it's not easy versus a top team like Florida 🙂
Why was Marner always the whipping boy for the Leafs in the playoffs. Outside of Nylander, all of the core 4 underperformed in the postseason.
Why isn't the 69 goal scoring captain ever held to account when he was never able to be 'the guy' in any series. Marner isn't any less to blame but he also isn't any more to blame.

And the management couldn’t put the right supporting cast around them, as much as they tried. It was on the 4 to shoulder the heavy load and they didn’t do it. Everyone knows. It is what it is. Yah sure Marner gets what he wants, but he doesn’t have a ring.
