No need to give him an extension at this point. Let's see how things look at next years free agency period. If Panarin wants to stay in NY(I think he does), then he'll need to take a deal like Tavares did, maybe a bit more like 6 mil tops. Seems improbable, but I think McDavid is going to hit the open market. Likewise Kaprisov, but do you take him ahead of Panarin? Maybe.
A few thoughts:
I think we won't know Bread's future until we get near the trade deadline. If the Rangers suck, then maybe he gets moved. If they are doing well and looking like contenders, then we sign him to a 2-3 year deal. He's on the wrong side of 30 and not worth a long term deal.
There's no way Edmonton will let Hockey McJesus become a UFA!
