Meanwhile everyone was crowing the Devils as a cup contender and saw the Caps as a lottery team heading into the start of last season and that was specifically in this division. Lots of predictions went sideways all around the league. I'm not taking seriously the opinion of any talking head months ahead of the upcoming season because they really don't know anything and that's been proven.
While NYR did start hot last season, I credit Drury for seeing the bigger picture. He proceeded to get rid of under-performing players, a coach the team had tuned out, brought in some young players with hunger, and freed up a ton of cap space in the process. They signed several replacements this off-season, extended their acquired trade assets for cheap, likely will trade for others/shed further cap space at the deadline depending on how the teams performs, all while the rising cap enables him to make bigger moves next off-season. Drury is in the process of remaking this team and that's not done within the span of a single summer. I'm not judging these moves until after 2027 – that should be the target as Mika and some others will be off the books by then hopefully with better replacements in the line-up.

I don't see how they are as bad. You can literally have 2 100 point players. A Norris and Vezina winner all on ur team in the same season and I wouldn't be surpsied (Miller Panarin Fox and Shisterkin)

The same another Terrible Coach Hire he won't make it past 2 seasons. Joel Quenneville was the better bet for culture change and new way forward. SULLIVAN is boring and stale he wasn't fired because he was lacking in this area. Drurys head is so far up his own ass he can't see what he's doing
