Part of the Leafs problem was overpaying everyone in relation to the salary cap. In my opinion Marner is a good player but is way overpaid for his playoff production. Vegas is paying him 12 million. I think 8 million is closer to what he should be paid. I don't look at regular season numbers. Marner is 25th in the league in playoff points per game but gets paid as top 5. Sorry but the toronto media has hyped marner up way too much. He's not the only one. Mathews has worse playoff numbers than Marner and gets paid as 2nd in the league. We just have a habit of overpaying these guys and we can't balance the team properly.
Marner has been nothing but problems since they drafted this clown
Things started going wrong for Marner when his dad became his manager. Asshole dad as an agent + asshole agent and you will always get a troubled path.
Now that Marner is gone you need to forget about him. He's not worth the time of day.
Can't have 2 first or second line players who do not go into the corners. Both he and Willie play that way and Mariner was not signed in 24 and Willie was. He held out this year to test the market as planed and Willie was signed long term. Someone had to go and Marnier knew that Trelving was going to change the team to get players that will go into the corners to get the puck. Team's who win the cup always have that ability. Be interesting what happens this year as the team has beefed up. Been a long wait. More management problems than player issues over the years.
