My guess is Guerin wants an 8-year extension, and Kirill doesn't……..Kirill would be wise to wait though because he'd be leaving money on the table if he signs and extension now with Bonehead Bettman "projecting" a $9M cap increase in 2026……..
Kirill's a career 1.21 PPG player playing on an average team with primarily average linemates his entire career, so he's going to get paid wherever he plays. The money is a moot point….
I am also completely fine with a 4-year deal. TBH, I think KK97 is already damaged goods. I'm not sure that we would get 8 years of quality play from him, anyway.
Maybe playing with players on a different team isn't appealing to him. Money is not always the biggest item. Anyone ever keep a job longer than you should because you had great people you respect alongside of you? He is the only person who can look in the mirror and be satisfied with what he gets. I am sure all reasons he decides on his contract will not be public. I hope he stays and I hope we get a run that ends with a legit chance at winning the cup.
What I took from Russo's comments were that they were not close to signing a deal because GMBG is on vacation in Europe, and Kirill is still in Moscow. They'll want photos and video and promo stuff when they sign, so they can make a big media show out of it. He's signed for this season, so they'll just try to get it done before training camp.
I think Kap (who says he wants nothing more than to win a cup….) should go for a 15m x 3yrs to make this team prove it actually wants to try to be a real contender. And you give Rossi 7m x 3yrs… and we'll see how this tiny window looks over the next 4 years.
If Kaprizov is smart, he doesn't sign anything. Wait and see how the season goes. The Wild have some legitimate issues right now. The back-up goalie situation, LD depth, #1 center, PK issues, and a top tier face-off guy. This team isn't Cup ready.
