Wings are lacking leadership. Larkin showed he’s not captain material last season, and Ray/Mo where nowhere to be found when the team needed leadership down the stretch
Kane has captained multiple US national teams and first wore a letter in the NHL when Raymond was 5 years old. He is Patrick Kane and he is not a guest star on the team anymore, he's in his 3rd year here. The only reason (besides his fellow 17th year guy Perron being established already) Kane wasn't a regular A immediately in Detroit is bc he was a new guy who they thought he was just doing a pitstop before going elsewhere. When he proved in the subsequent offseason to actually be invested, combined w his now being established in the locker room, he was put in the regular A rotation. If the team took a secret vote on who should be captain Kane would have at least as good odds as anyone else and maybe the best odds.
Lucas is a good player who may blossom into a leader longterm but hasn't demonstrated anything in that direction yet. Mo otoh tho quiet is a natural A guy.
