Despite the Flames not having the players to make any real noise in the playoffs, they do have a number of guys that would make any team better. Kadri, Andersson, Weegar, Coleman, and even their captain and longest contracted player Mikael Backlund. Players that could add depth, character, and skill, to teams ready to push to win their last game of 2026. I don’t think the difficulty is in convincing any of these players to play meaningful hockey for the cup? Or talking the Flames into moving them for futures? I’m sure the team understands they’re not in a position now to mount a serious push for Lord Stanley’s mug. I think what’s holding up any trades is the returns? No GM in the league is going to want other teams to think he’ll sell for anything but a serious offer. Better to walk a player to free agency, than get fleeced? So, while reports are always titillating, if there was anything real to them a trade would already be done.
