The last two seasons have been polar opposites with mainly the same group of players. Who knows about the future? The Rangers have elite goaltending & if they can get elite coaching things can change fast. Forwards who can play a 200 ft. game & play with intensity can take a team a long way, regardless if they have a bevy of superstars out there. A sound defensive structure is what wins in the playoffs. I think a lot of the Panthers success comes down to Paul Maurice. No matter what the turnover they play the same brand of in your face hockey that wears teams down. If Sullivan can develop our prospects to where they should be, then the Rangers should present us with a winning, competitive team. A mix of good vets with infusion of youth seems to be the best formula for success.
I think the formula has to start in the AHL. The structure teams have like the Devil's or Bruins gives them the advantage of being able to develop better and plug guys in when injuries occur. What pissed me off about Drury was he had Knobuch coaching the Pack . Edmonton comes in and scoops him up because Drury insists on Lavi despite his track record. Tell me….did anyone see the turn around in the Oilers? They were shit despite the talent. Now .. they get through the playoffs twice in a row. These are the decisions that bite you in the ass when it comes to development and structure and…. discipline.🏒
