If they believe they have 2yr window they should have gotten someone big this offseason. When money is easier maneuver.
Either trade some youth to get better now packages including Lambert,Barlow,maybe Chibrikov you'd probably have to include a Nino or someone for cap reasons. But who are you getting who's waiving to come here? Going younger RFA = retool
Getting older guys who are mid are just making things worse it has to be a star a BryanRust doesn't cut it.
I don't see Jets getting a McCann,Kadri,Horvat,Barzal,Cirelli,Pettersson,Schenn whoever and will they come is question not do we have the assets.
Alot of jets are getting early to kid 30s decisions need to be made.
1. Hellebuyck is 32 turning 33 same with Lowry,Scheifele. Morrissey is bit younger. But even Hellebuyck disappointing every playoffs best years are behind. A 3rd year competitive window would put those guys at 35 turning 36 it's not realistic more like a 2yr window max. The only guy who's young on team is Perfetti and sort of Villardi.
Or see how season goes If things look bad it's time commit to youth and sell off assets for picks/prospects give a new core chance.
I rather see us suck for 2 yrs get picks/prospects anyone who wants to stay be lifelong jets stay anyone who wants to go get fair value and rebuild.
Get RFA from other teams and try and find a replacement for Hellebuyck whether internally like a Milic/Divincentiis or get a Cossa,Levi whoever. Ik besides legal issue I'd feel more comfortable with CarterHart then Hellebuyck playoff wise. People forget Hart was winning WHL awards,U20s,up for rookie of year and was projected be next great canadian goalie similar hype to Wolf in Calgary I think wolf even got some games and played Everett same team.
Ofc there will be growing pains like why did a young fits make that play of if we did have another younger goalie soft goals/maybe they are unconsistant at first similar Pavelec/Hutchinson/Montoya days but I feel things need to change.
This team is no contender for a cup, I guess the goal must be to earn a playoff spot. Just get in, nothing else matters. Without Ehlers and no replacement for him the team lost quality. Maybe Chiprikov will make the team this year but Lambert has not convinced me at all (I have to admit I said the same about KC when he had his NHL debut in 2016/17 and got send back to the minors…). Even getting a playoff spot will be hard with the Stars, Avs and now the Blues as tough competitors. Let's face the truth – the cup windows somewhat closed when Ehlers signed in Raleigh. The Jets need to lay the foundation for the future now, integrate their own draft picks and develop them at the same time as they make a run for the playoffs (if they win the first round, it was a great season).
The Jets have been looking for 2C for along time.Simply put so far they can't bring in high quality talent.So why not concentrate on draft picks and working hard with the Moose to bring your draft picks up to the N.H.L. level.And if a quality player becomes available try to bring him to Winnipeg.
Another why change off season from Management. Only move was more from departures end than any significant gains made. I’m sure the guys leaving are glad to try something new. I cannot stand the local Press suck ups who won’t criticize – TDL was truly a disaster! This Window is closing rapidly.
