The Broberg offer sheets didn’t come until mid August. Teams have to get in financial straits before the offer sheet flies. That could still happen. Seattle could risk having Evans be offer sheeted for a Broberg level OS if they sign another idiotic free agent contract for a middle 6 guy like Roslovic.
Additionally, no bad team (who can likely afford the $) is risking the chance to get a McKenna with a #1 pick
You can just as easily bump the market up as you can set the market

There are only 4-6 contenders that could take the risk on giving up an unprotected 2026 1st round pick in a McKenns draft as compensation.
Most teams that need a 2C are likely a middling team that could easily make playoffs
The whole league saw the Islanders jump up 12 spots to land 1st overall
Yeah money plays into it, but the compensation cost this offseason in relation. To a deep draft is why you’re not seeing a big offersheet

I laughed at all the talk of offer sheets… let's be honest.. the Aho OS was done because MTL wanted him, and after the fact it's not been a bad deal. Kotkiemi deal, was just stupid.. revenge.. well as the adage has said.. be careful what you wish for… and Carolina got it.. and MTL is probably still laughing about it (I know I am)… the two last year, St. Louis took advantage of a cap strapped team in Edmonton… The Oilers would have had to create cap space to keep them and they simply chose not to… MacTavish.. this year so many teams have money to spend.. because the cap went up.. and the Ducks have way more than Mason should get… it' comes back to the Aho deal…. MTL did Carolina's work in signing him foro them… and that's how it would have happened. Byram I never felt was going to move once JJ was moved. They looked to move him due to cap issues.. until JJ, also an RFA demanded he get moved.. suddenly, they had the space to sign the rest.. including Byram..

Newhook can play wing or center. Habs are also looking for a center to play on the top 2 lines.
I don’t see anything the Canucks can give the Habs that they don’t already have. The only way they trade Newhook (or Dach) to Vancouver is if it’s part of a 3 team trade and Habs land a top 2 center by adding whatever they get from the Canucks and some of the Habs prospects…

Adams big hope, Levi, has been assigned to the AHL the past 3 years. Meanwhile, many players see this as wasting their careers in Buffalo and want out. Adams is just tinkering with the team until Levi pans out. It's a flawed strategy. It may never happen…

My hope is that MTL gives Dach the chance to be the 2C. His value has lessened due to injury, so this could be a way of upping it moving forward. Then, keep or trade, if another option is available.
It’s probably time for Seravalli to be wrong on the Sabres. We’re not bringing in and more salary and the D is set.
In terms of the Sabres I think what was said is hogwash…Reinhart and Eichel went to teams that were on the verge of winning the cup. Vegas always goes after the best players that are available and correct me if I'm wrong but once Florida traded for Tkachuk their fortunes changed and they won the cup twice after his first season in Florida.
Eichel and Reinhart had had enough of how the team was being run as did ROR and wanted out. Why Adams hasn't made many trades isn't because of being gun shy but because of NMC contracts and who could blame a player not wanting to come here because of the way this team has been run.
The organization is a dumpster fire, they've drafted poorly and other than the obvious drafting Dahlin and Power show me a player that has been an impact player that they've drafted the last 10 years.
The offer sheet talk this Summer was always nonsense. Last year was the exception with two offer sheets, not the rule. Hopefully, this offseason puts an end to all of the offer sheets rumormongering going forward.
Sabres fan here. It’s heartbreaking watching the team give up on Cozens, Peterka (and soon Quinn, probably) so soon. They were the future of the franchise, and represented much of our upside. I know that each of them developed bad habits (partying:Peterka, skipping team meetings:Quinn, uncoachable:Cozens), but we should have tried harder and longer to turn them around. While I like Kesselring, having Norris and Doan as major pieces coming back in those trades is a disaster. I know it’s become a cliche, but Adams/Ruff/Pegula have killed whatever promise we once had.
1) Newhook plays primarily wing, 2) he has flexibility to play center too, 3) he uses that flexibility to be their 2C on the PP: … why would they trade him…you are under valuing how Montreal sees him. Besides, what does Vancouver have that Montreal wants?
Like to see how all these guys who have gone to the ncaa like playing way less games. These young guys shoud be playing more. Interested to see how it goes
Good on the Leafs to get Robertson 's deal done before arbitration. Surprised there were no offer sheets this offseason–the Blues did great with acquiring Broberg and Holloway via offer sheet last year.
