  1. My teacher taught blues today my classmates all said “ not good”
I was like “well at least Bessie have a great voice to blues I admire her”

  2. I’m not here for a music class. I’m actually here because I’m looking for sad, 1920s music. Anyone got any suggestions?

  3. No song today for the most part has the power and raw emotion and talent to transport us in time, and set a mood like this one, and the orchestration is so bare and sparse that the voice and lyrics just hang in the mind and soul. This song breaks my heart, Bessie's voice carries so much sorrow and strength.

  4. I hate to see the evening sun go down
I hate to see the evening sun go down
It makes me think I'm on my last go 'round
Feeling tomorrow like I feel today
Feeling tomorrow like I feel today
I'll pack my grip and make my getaway
St. Louis woman with her diamond rings
Pulls that man around by her apron strings
Wasn't for powder and the store-bought hair
The man I love wouldn't go nowhere, nowhere
I got them St. Louis Blues, just as blue as I can be
He's got a heart like a rock cast in the sea
Or else he wouldn't have gone so far from me

  5. Is a young Louis Armstrong on the coronet? I read that he accompanied her on this 1925 version of this classic . Sure sounds like him. 🎺 ⭐️

  6. This record is officially 100 years old now, this is the 21 savage nee nah sample.

21 savage ft. Travis Scott "nee nah" (2024)

  7. Handy's original release (instrumental) was in 1914, featuring the tango lead-in. Two years later, Willuam Grant Still arranged a version for Handy in 1916. Does anyone know where this rendition can be found?

  8. Apparently today is the 100th anniversary of this song and is the inspiration for the St Louis Blues' name. Pretty cool history.

  9. This song shows up several times on Baby Face 1933, every time Lily conquered another man.

  10. I've thought about this for many years, and I remain of the view that this version is definitive and unbeatable.
