Listening to this video makes me happy that I don't subscribe to The Athletic! Not a lot of thought went into their assessment. The problem with a lot of contracts is the term. The max term at the deadline is now seven years not eight. Still too long. Long term contracts usually don't age well, like Trouba's contract. They should drop it to six or even 5 years.
Clearly the person who made up these ratings does not understand hockey. my guess is they ran it through some algorithm which doesn't work. even with the potential concern about contract term, the salary cap in 3 years will certainly offset any depreciation in the player. Way too much over analysis and not worth reading The Athletic.
None of these players, save J.T. has proven they can get it done as an individual or as team. Based on that they get a collective "D".
