Thank god the Sabres failed so hard teams don’t want to tank anymore. Turns out it takes more than 1 top 10 pick a year to build a competitive team. You actually need to do things like make smart player acquisitions, draft well outside the top 10, and/or luck into a top 3 player of their generation. The Sabres have done none of these things
I wouldn't be surprised if the Sabres are just as bad or even worse than last year. The only solution I can think of is selling the team and having someone else take over with a dramatically different approach.

This is this year. 91 point pace last season without the streak, and we got better. This is probably me having way too much hope, but I think this is the year they sneak in, with Levi taking the reins around mid season.
