Dubas seems disinterested in tanking so doubt he trades Rust or Rakell. Especially this close to training camp.
i think they should start the season not to be rushed into making a bad trade its all the band wagon hoppers that are moaning and groaning how the leafs need to replace Marner if anything they need a puck moving D

If the leafs are trying to get a top six forward from any team Cowan or Danforth are going the other way. They have nothing else to offer. Rust has never played a full season in his career which could be an issue. At 32 yrs old he has a few good years left. The leafs have almost emptied the prospect pool so why not go all the way. Of the current roster the only real guys they have locked up are Willie an Knies everyone else is on short term contracts. Matthews will leave at the end of his contract and the Rielly contract is untradeable. The UFA market is all they have to work with for the future.
Jarnkrok to the Devils would make sense, for a pick. Then the leafs sign Roslovic
Excellent report-Thanks–somewhat surprised about the Blues giving Milan Lucic a PTO ,but, if he manages to get a contract, he could be one of those miracle comeback stories.

LOL Dubas said that he'll trade Rust to a team of his own choosing, And sorry the Leafs aren't that team.
Rusty is an “elite” penalty killer who can eat pucks like Chris Tanev.
He is a lot more valuable than people think.
Rust isn't worth any top prospects or 1st rounder. Rust is so good that Pittsburgh is watching the playoffs. Still and already better than Ottawa or Montreal. Keep looking!
Hey Miek, I agree with you 100% regarding Rust, he seems to be the perfect fit, if the only available player at that level left that the Leafs could actually acquire and afford.

NHL has made It very very clear,the Leaf's will NEVER be allowed to win the CUP
Why would Rust command a 1st round pick, when they couldn't even get that for Guentzal. Leafs are in no rush, see what they have with new additions plus Cowan and then figure where they want to add. Once the season starts and a few injuries start happening, teams might be more open to picking up a Jarnkrok or Kamp to fill in depth. I think the Leafs will be better than people think.
