I was very unimpressed with Leonard at the NHL level.
Very good video. Excited to see THE CONROY GLAZE
FLAMES PYRAMID WHEN
You're right about Brent Johnson. The Caps have 2 days to sign him to an ELC or they lose his rights, and it looks like they're gonna let him go, and save that contract spot. He's a decent prospect, but with their other RHD prospects like Iorio, Chesley, and Allen all being further along than him, he's simply redundant in that room, but I'm sure he'll land a job somewhere in the AHL. I also just noticed you had Dru Krebs on the pyramid who was let go of like a year or two ago lol
Protas is a guy who I think has real top 6 potential, especially when you look at how his older brother had his own breakout szn in Washington. Aliaksei Protas serves as the blueprint for what Ilya can be at the pro level. Them being in the same organization where they're constantly training together should do wonders for his development.
Still kinda shocked you don't have Leonard in the core tier, but I did see what you're talking about with how he tries to do too much by himself. He needs to know when to reign himself in a little, but he displayed some serious skill when he was out there.
Parascak ironically has the opposite problem in that he's too much a passenger, rather than driver of play. He's a good complimentary winger, but that lack of initiative is the main thing holding him back.
I am super excited for Lakovic. If he takes some pointers from Tom Wilson and Ryan Leonard to add that physical element, he'll be a force on the ice. Even if he doesn't he has the skillset to project as an Anthony Mantha type. A name that sparks very mixed feelings for Caps fans, but a good player nonetheless.
As a Caps fan, I do think Ryan Leonard is in the same tier as Lynden Lakovic
Good objective analysis. I would have ranked Leonard higher. He was generating scoring chances almost every shift and had some of the better offensive advanced stats during the playoffs. If he can start putting pucks in the net this year he's a lock for top 6. He reminds me a bit of TJ Oshie.
Ilya Protas is looking to take the same developmental path as his big brother. If he pans out, the two of them together will be a handful for years to come. Parascak was drafted for his hockey IQ. He's one of those guys who's skill doesn't necessarily stand out, but still finds a way to make things happen with his smarts. He could be a bust, or he might end up surprising a lot of people.
Justin Sourdif just aged out of being a prospect, but which tier would you put him in if he was eligible?
I think Patrick Thomas is underrated, I think he could be a solid 4C leading his line in the NHL. He has the leadership personality and the passing ability to make his linemates look better.
