Beautiful story. A decade ago, in Chicago, the same situation occurred. And in that instance the back up actually played. He was celebrated after the game and treated by the players like a hero. All the players remember what it was like riding buses in the minors and wanted to make his moment special.

Forsberg was supposed to start that game and was injured stretching before the game. Ullmark played the night before and won both games back to back.
I almost went to this game. Was in town cause the buffalo bandits were playing ottawa at the ctc. But earlier that we we decided to only stay one night and go home the day of the hockey game.
