As long as he doesn't have the worst statistical season of his career, we will be better than last year. IMO
Honestly I think if he's able to sustain a 50+ starts it will be perfect because Talbot is really Old now and I would'nt be confortable to run him more than 30-35 ich games.
Wings last place.
I think what will be most important for Gibson to provide the most impact is consistency, which is something the Wings have lacked from their goaltenders the past few years. Talbot totally cratered after the 4 Nations break, which may have contributed to them missing the playoffs. If Gibson can "steal" at least 3 games and help their PK beyond what the goaltending provided last year then those extra 6 points could get them in the playoffs.
Btw, it's interesting how reporters can skew what the players say to fit their own narrative. I watched the full interview with Gibson on Day 1 of camp and he was definitely more nonchalant about how many starts he wants this year. Kevin Allen started by asking him if he wants 50+ starts, then you see what Gibson said, which is he prepares himself to start a lot of games but doesn't have any expectations for how many starts he'll actually get. Kevin Allen + Helene St. James need to go as DRW beat reporters because after listening to them in way too many interviews now they are always asking leading questions to push their agendas and uneducated opinions. Max Bultman of The Athletic wrote a much better article on Gibson today
John Gibson, Mackenzie Blackwood and Connor Ingram were who I routinely picked up as a third goalie in Fantasy over the last three years. They routinely got shelled, so giving up five goals didn't matter. They were point producing machines.
