Hockey players get drafted at 18 years old. Hockey teams only average 2 players per team under the age of 23 playing more than half the games in a season.
You want to build a team through the draft? Its going to take you a decade.
You want to build a team through trades and free agency? You'll never succeed. The real talent that wins cups almost never change teams. Maybe 2-3 guys like that every decade.
The NHL as a whole has a huge rebuold timeline problem. Every team at the red wings' current level is bare minimum 3 seasons away from being true contenders.
You either have patience for a rebuild, or you never rebuild in the NHL.
I can't hear the name Sean Avery and not think of Elisha Cuthbert.
Yzerman learned from the GOAT of all hockey coaches, Scotty Fing Bowman. He also had Jacques Demers and Brian Murray. As a 45 year old who is a life long wings fan I can promise you that all the pain is worth the wait. Especially when you get 4 cup wins, 6 cup appearances and 25 years in a row of playoff hockey. Patience is watching Yzerman play for 14 seasons before winning it all.
Took Stevie 13 years as captain to win a cup and he lead this team to 3!!! His reputation speaks for itself, anyone who's trying to say he isn't doing his job is probably a fake hockey fan we have lots of those in Detroit!!! Fair weather red wing fans who only watch when football season is over lol 😂

Yzerman is incapable of drafting unless it is a round 1 lottery pick, look at his 2nd and 3rd round picks since 2019…. BRUTAL!
Red Wings prospect pool is looking great this training camp, really happy at the development of guys like Finnie and Shai Buium. Wings organization knows how to draft solid NHL talent, but also responsible players, and that’s what’s important for building a contender. Look at Florida
I totally understand fans who are tired of losing and missing the playoffs. I also believe in Yzerman and his ability to build a contender. When he got here in 2019, we had nothing in our system. No prospects, No players, no extra picks. He's slowly but surely improved the team year after year, and has made our prospect pool one of the best in the league.
Building teams is a bit different now in the cap era and doing it right takes a lot of time, especially when you get zero lottery luck.
Don't sleep on Amadeus Lombardi. 4th round pick.
