Of course the major change for the Leafs will be in the playoffs. Not saying it will be better, but Marner did absolutely nothing in important playoff games. Perhaps the extra depth will be the difference, perhaps it won't. Remains to be seen. They actually could make a deadline move this year though.

Rutherford and Co have to decide fairly soon whether Quinn is coming back or not. if he isn't, the sooner they move him for the most assets, the better. I'd give it this season and see where he's at. They can't walk him to UFA status. If they can't get him to commit long term after this coming season, they have to move him and at least retool, if not rebuild. I'm not a teenager anymore, so this isn't an emotional issue for me. I want the team to win, but reality is what it is. The sooner they can sort out if Quinn is here for the long haul, the better. Either get him signed by next off season, or get him moved asap for the most you can get. Obviously, you can't replace him on the roster, but you can get SOMETHING for him. At that point, I'd just rebuild with a 3-4 year plan if he's not coming back. Not rebuilding has led to over a decade of misery.

Sammy nailed it. More puck on Matthews stick makes for a better TML. Marner was fantastic but the need to play them together limited optimizing the line up and made the big cap hits redundant and wasteful. Let’s move on!
