  1. The Islanders were arguably the most injured team last year. If they can avoid injuries, then they can make it back to the playoffs.

  2. So if they start to strip it down what do they do with the goaltending. Because sorokin isn’t staying for a rebuild

  3. I don’t think the Isles will sell until they prove they should this year. Last year was way worse than expected because of injuries. Barzal played 30 games total from an early injury in the year and then a broken kneecap later on. Also both the entire left and right sides of the defense were injured at the same time at separate times last year.

    Reasons for optimism:
    – Schaefer looks more than ready immediately. It’s practice but he’s been noticeably good in different ways. Definitely looks like a 1OA talent.
    – Duclair is actually healthy after tearing his groin off the bone last year.
    – there is a ton of internal depth in the forward group. Holmstrom, Tsyplakov, Shabanov, and ideally Ritchie at some point could all have good season that would be under the radar for most people.

    Reasons for pessimism:
    – Backup goalie is bad. Rittich and Hogburg both look horrible so far in preseason
    – Defense is generally bad. Pelech and Pulock have been bad for a couple years now and TDA is a disaster in the D zone
    – Adam is completely on point for finishing talent. Horvat and Palmieri are the only shooters on the team. Maybe Eiserman can join after the college season ends but passed that it’s a very playmaking heavy team with few who like to shoot.

We’ll see where this team ends up. They really can be anywhere from last in the division if everything goes bad to maybe up to 3rd if everything goes well. Ideally they should sell Pageau and/or Cizikas at the deadline no matter what. Just hope Darche does his best for the future of the team so they can actually be a cup threat in the future

  4. I don't really see them selling that much, they have too many guys signed till 2030's. It's a weird roster, I would expect more of a retool, not a rebuild.

  5. Dobson’s gone and he couldn’t defend anyone. Pageau is probably being traded, Lee maybe as well. Ritchie is 3C then

  6. I like the future for this franchise. I don't like the franchise right now. Sell off this year, then start getting better. Just not a tear-down, please.

  7. I don't think we're much better than where the Pens are. We're at the start of a rebuild. But I do think last years draft means we can tinker around the sides rather than what Chicago, San Jose and probably Pittsburgh have to do.
But we do lack identity, especially since the identity line was broken up.
