  1. I don't feel bad at all over them getting waived. They still get paid until the end of their contract. Another team might pick them up. Or they could play in the AHL and still get paid. They could join professional tryouts for next season.

Sure it's not ideal for them, but that's the results of their own performance.

  2. Funny that I woke up this morning thinking how disgusted I was that they didn't waive Gus and Holl. A couple hours ago I saw this and thought "Finally! We've turned the corner.".

  3. Can’t say I’m surprised with somebody ending up lagging behind in terms of the veterans but to say it was gonna be gustafsson caught me off guard. It’s not the worst thing but a much harder decision than holl. The kids come thru once again in a big way if that’s happening.

  4. This is good news. Rookies pushing veterans out of jobs! That’s what competition is all about. Gus could likely get picked up. Asp has developed each preseason game last game he was the best I’ve seen of him. Why trade for karlson for offense with no defense and his contract when we have a 20 yr old with basically the same skill set he brings to the table? I’m happy we have some fresh blood that beat out two veterans and hope we push for that playoff spot this yr!

  5. I really want to see more of carter bear in the future, the kids got game.. im glad the prospects are getting their chance! These kids are the future of the Red Wings

  6. Hold your horses there, Lego. As of right now only 2 of those 3 is 100% on the opening night roster. Obviously with the waivers today ASP has made the team. They're still carrying 14 forwards and generally will only carry 13. Finnie and MBN don't need waivers to be sent down but neither Bergrren nor Soderblom was put on waivers so it looks like they'll both stay in Detroit. McLellan even said yesterday that the roster they have on Monday may not look the same come Thursday because their focus on Sunday/Monday is to get the roster to 23 players. Which is to say, I'm reserving my excitement for Finnie and MBN until the rest of the week plays out.

The Holl and Gustafsson moves make sense because Gus wasn't needed to run PP2 with ASP fitting in well in that spot and at least Holl will get regular minutes in GR instead of spending most of the season in the press box. ASP brings at least the same amount of defense as those two guys and brings more offensively, in retrievals and in the transition game so it was probably a no-brainer for Detroit to keep him up. It was very telling when McLellan was talking about veterans who don't realize that they need to fight to keep their jobs and these two clearly failed to do that this preseason.

  7. yzerman signed both of those bums to terrible contracts lol

the red wings have 2 chances of making the playoffs, slim & none 🤣🤣🤣

  8. Man I thought it was crazy when Raymond beat out Bobby Ryan who was on a PTO and looked like a lock to make the team, Lucas said nah nah. Bobby Ryan has not touched NHL ice since.

  9. This is awesome. I’ve been waiting for the flood of youth talent to make this team. Think about this too, if Danielson doesn’t get hurt, if Mazur wasn’t hurt again, we’re probably struggling to bring one or both up to the big club. I think they’re both ready and we will see one or both yet this season. Looking ahead I think guys like Lombardi, Buium and Wallinder are knocking on the door as well.

  10. What do you mean ASP struggled with the Griffins? He played like 6 games after a full season in the SHL.
