Not taking a shot at Sully, NY seemed to play exactly how pittsburgh played last couple of years especially late in games to lose the close ones. All respect to Sully for everything he has done, but it was nice to not have to sweat every Rangers rush. I felt confident enough, especially seeing how they generally kept them outside. It most definitely WAS A Great Night For Hockey!!

Geno still has so much playmaking skill he made Brazeau (a 4th liner) look like a 40 goal scorer. Brutal what they did to Geno the past few years lining him with stiffs over & over smh. The single above average player Geno played with the past few years is Raks but that was the year Raks was battling injury.

I wouldnt call the Rangers a "strong" team, but they have possibly the best goalie in the league and a load of big name players making decent money. Sounds pretty familiar to what Sully had in Pitt, just much better goalie. Dont see them being all that much better than the 2019-2024 Penguins were under Sully.
Last big moment in Pitt with Sully was the 2018 loss to the eventual cup winning Caps.
To me they looked faster and not like there stuck in quick sand
Fantastic start for the Pens, all the players from the veterans to the rookies played well.
What a game. Was exhilarating to see them beat the Rangers the way we've been beaten the last couple years. Looked fast, sharp and fun

Can I just say how refreshing it was not to see the Pens give up a 2 on 1 breakaway every 2 mins? Seems like we really spread out the minutes too and didn’t rely to heavily on our vets. Gave them a chance to keep their wind. It’s only one game but a game they can certainly be proud of and build off of.
Karlson was at his best when in a structured system with Ottowa his final seasons there.
I think its a little extreme to say the rangers never really threatened but reasonable people can disagree!

I know you have to keep these at 15 minutes but I could listen to you talk about last night’s game for an hour and a half.
They were smothering in all three zones!
We have to erase all of our expectations of this team. All offseason I’ve seen people saying, “well the pens will give up a million odd man rushes”, “the pens will blow any lead they have in the third” on and on and on. This isn’t a Sullivan team anymore. Blank slate baby.
Omg. Malkin to Brazeau in both 1st goals. In NHL highlights vid of this game Malkin is THE dominant players in almost every highlight.
it was like watching a completely different team. Saturday's rematch will be very different…and not starting Jarry is a good sign as well

I just loved seeing them play responsible hockey … while not trapping or playing some boring style … just not recklessly going after every lose puck all over the ice. I don't remember them giving up a 2-on-1 all night, and they certainly never gave up a breakaway, and that has been their achilles heel for the past many seasons. It is only one game, but that was very good to see.
