He faced 13 shots and let in 3 horrible goals. How was he left out to dry. We were outshooting them 17 to 9 in first period. Many of you in this city have negative 250 of hockey iq. Gibson also played horrible vs Toronto. You cant beat on distance shots or shots with no screens Hes paid to make those saves. 3 of those fucking shots have to be made period. Its why we missed the playoffs the last 2 seasons. Absolutel booty cheek goaltending. Stop blaming everyone else. Goalies need to he held accountable in this dam city. We better hope Augustine has the stuff as he appears too

  2. We need to trust that McLellen has the skills to coach through this. We've got a lot of emotions since that performance looked a lot like games we saw last season before Newsie got canned.

Can't lose hope that the injection of youth will develop into the team we believe they can be.

  3. Rasmusseb copp compher were as invisible as caspar the ghost as usual. All three of them should be sent ass first out of a cannon to grand rapids griffens

  4. They could have pulled a fool from the crowd that could have stopped more shots thab Gibson ! Wheres Tim Chevelde when we NEED him ?

  5. I watched the Thursday EDT Habs-Red Wings game and oh boy were those Habs very determined to not just win, but, after having blown a 2-1 lead to the Leafs on Wednesday EDT en route to a 5–2 loss, convincingly win. It was as if the Habs had not let what might’ve been extreme tiredness get to their game against the Red Wings.

The Oilers, from the 2006–07 to 2015–16 season, went through a so-called decade-of-darkness, something the Sabres have already gone through and then some (last season having been the 14th straight without a playoff appearance). The Wings currently are in their 10th season following their last playoff appearance, and if the Thursday EDT blowout loss to the Habs is an indication of what’s to come for those Wings, I don’t like those Wings’ chances of qualifying for this coming postseason.

  6. Most of the goals against can be directly linked to mistakes made in the neutral zone. I know a lot of people are blaming the defense but the defense was fairly solid. Todd has pointed it out as well. The Wings need to learn to manage their game better and that takes a whole team.

Too many forwards making very bad passing decisions mid ice. Also skating into traps and losing the puck in dangerous areas. The defensemen can’t be sitting in their own zone the whole game waiting for the forwards to screw up. They have to skate up with the forwards and forwards need to be more responsible with the puck.

It’s just the first game. There are not only 3 rookies but also 5 second year players. It’s a very young and promising team. Mistakes will happen but I hope to see them fix those mistakes sooner rather than later.

I liked this game waaaay more than the whole first month last season. Even the wins looked awful at the start of last season. I’m still looking forward to this season, just got the hype knocked out of my sails.

  7. Biggest difference is Montreal scored on their chances & Detroit didn't. D was awful. I don't blame Gibson for this game.

  8. The first two powerplays looked great. The third not so much and the fourth came when the game was well since settled. They spent a whole lot of time in Montreal's zone in the first two periods but little came of the time there.

  9. With the salary cap going up, fewer players will be leaving their teams. The era of Yzerman signing from the free agency pool is over. Now the dependency has to be on the draft picks. I'll be focused on three teams this year, lorida, Tampa, and Vegas. As for Detroit sports, the Pistons and the Lions. I'll give the occasional look to the Wings, but if this game is any indication, they're not worth much viewing.

  10. Something that infuriated me was how Xhekaj is able to shove the kids around and NOTHING happens. How I wish we had a Mathieu Olivier, tough and can play.

  11. It was a bad day for hockey in my house hold. The wings lost, the Spartans lost, and the broncos lost.

  12. This team is straight up trash & played with absolute zero heart! Fire YZERMAN & sell the team to a non cottled franchise given loser that Chris Illitch is!!! 🤬🤬🤬

  13. This team is the ultimate example of the definition of Insanity!!! Keep doing the same thing with expecting different results!!! 🤬🤬🤬

  14. Done with Rasmussen, Compher and Hamonic. Soderblom and Gibson need to pick it up quick or they can join that list..

  15. I have absolutely zero evidence to back this up, but I wonder if DeBrincat isn’t a fan of McLellan? When Lalonde was behind the bench, Kane looked less than excited to actually play and it seems like DeBrincat isn’t super enthusiastic either. Just my thought.

  16. To ALL HATERS->Did you all know that Montreal looked almost this bad in their game one. They came out looking good. The god , I think it was a three goaled. Then proceeded to make a bunch of bone headed defensive errors; then got smoked by Toronto. They looked overall bettwr than leafs but made horrible mistakes. Then they played game 2 and won.

  17. A new season and it’s the same old story 😂😂😂. And all we hear is the broken record ‘Believe in the Yzerplan’ , the cupboard was bare, it takes time, he’s building for the long term not a single cup, blah, blah, blah !! We hear, great prospects in the pipeline, yet every season it’s the same shortcomings. Excuses, excuses, excuses 🤣🤣🤣. The same worn song all season long . . . .

  18. ***I personally don't think this team looked at all like last year's team stylistically. Offensively we looked pretty promising in the 1st period. Sure their defense still sucked over all but it sucked in totally different ways. This was more of a team structure group of errors. Obviously the third pair sucked, but really the forwards were not locking the neutral zone down correctly, which was causing the defence to get caught flat footed. The third pair of definitely was following the forwards up the ice way too far , and they were not paying attention to open men coming the other direction whatsoever , just totally oblivious. Line composition and style of play, however, looked much more promissing over all. All of Todds teams play a strong neutral zone, team defencesive system. Hopefully he can enngrane this in the team within the next 2-3 weeks. It will take a little time and may be ugly until ir gets fixed. I pray Talbot can save our bacon until we get it together so we don't go on massive eight games skid right out of the gate. Once they learn to do this without thinking they won't have that Half second lag in their play , So they will become much faster after that point. Until then they're gonnalook like 💩. You all mind as well prepare yourself now. Hopefully, it takeas 1-3 games and not 3 weeks or 3 months. We will see.

  19. 1.) It’s game 1 of 82
2.) Defense has always been bad – Aljo and Edvinsson got caved in the D zone many times last year. Aljo is not a good defensemen.
3.) There is not one single elite player on this team or in this system, this has been known since Yzerman took over
4.) This team is softer mentally than the Maple Leafs

  20. Fire TODD NOW and hire John Tortorella well maybe George Peter DeBoer who shouldn't have been fired for the stars. Why did we trade Mrazek again? lol Gibson couldn't save a beach ball, its why Ducks didn't want him.

  21. Yeah they looked so bad I have doubts about the wings winning a game in their first 6 games. The opponents they play are Toronto twice, Florida, Tampa, Edmonton.

  22. I just don't get it, losing is one thing but come on 2 of first 3 gibby should of had. I'm sorry but most of you and in pros couldn't catch my fast ball and I'm 62 . I no goalie would be on my team unless they could catch a base ball.you have the biggest catchers mitt I've ever seen and you use your shoulder or your stick. Imagine every pre season you go to catchers camp and practice catching that little ball. The amount of loses in one season , half would have been victories.

  23. The big question is how the Red Wing pro scouting continues to be so wrong in their assessments. They signed Hamonic. They singed Holl. They signed Gustafsson. These are awful pro scouting decisions. Why are we not hiring a dedicated pro scouting director?

  24. $hitrot is dragging Seider down. That defensive pairing has never been good, and the fact that McLellan wanted to roll with that pairing, despite what we've seen, is NOT a good sign.

  25. I agree that it is only game 1, but it's hard to comprehend how a team can come out that bad for a home opener for a new season. It doesn't give one an optimistic outlook for the season. The Wings did almost nothing to improve this team in the offseason. As a long time Red Wings fan, I think we deserve better and our patience is running out.

  26. Maybe put Bergren in for Rasmussen, have to move bodies around being a centre but tired of Rasmussen doing absolutely nothing.

  27. Y'all's fanbase is depressing af ngl… It's been 10 years without the playoffs for you guys and your FO is more concerned about reminiscing about the past rather than actually winning hockey games… Y'all should be blaming the old ass fans who'll defend your retarded GM through everything because he was a good player… Wings could go 0-81 and the last home game would still sell out because the old heads would wear their #19 jerseys with pride and say its normal for a rebuilding team to go through that… Best thing is for the old fans to die off and let the youngins who haven't seen success be the vocal majority, that's when change will happen…

  28. It is only one game, but this was my complaint when everyone was shining Yzermans off-season moves. We did not improve, Gibson is not this big improvement over the previous goalies we have had. He's not 25 he's 32, he will probably end the season with a 3.00 – 3.20 GAA. When I pointed this out everyone jumped all over me. I told everyone Johansson and Soderblom were role players and if you were expecting them to turn into stars you were fooling yourself. Is Johansson going to be this bad every game, no, but he is what he is, he's a low end 3rd pairing d-man or 7th defense men on a good team. I didn't see this team making the playoffs before the season, I have yet to see anything that makes me think otherwise. It's a long season, these next 5 games will tell us alot.
