Just my 2 cents, Pronger and a clever way of dealing with a rule changes brought the Oilers closer to the Stanley Cup in a single season than the Oilers or any other Canadian team has managed since, with one exception. However, due to injuries to goalies and bad luck, I think Pronger & Co. were maybe even closer than McDavid & Co. were a year ago.
As a Wild fan, that 17 million per year seems like a punch in the gut.
It's impressive to see a player like Connor McDavid, who is arguably the best in the world, prioritize winning for his team over a massive paycheck. More players in the league should follow his example and play for the love of the sport. Even as a Calgary fan, I have a lot of respect for him.
Separately, I'm convinced no Canadian team will win the Stanley Cup as long as Gary Bettman is the NHL commissioner. It seems like no coincidence that the Montreal Canadiens' 1993 victory was the last time a Canadian team won, which was the same year he took over.
