  1. They're bigger, slower and soft to play against. You can't teach speed, they're in trouble this year!

  2. I'm gonna make a radical suggestion. Instead of moving Nylander up? Why not drop Auston down a line. You get Matthews with Nylander – at least for a bit – and see. And maybe shake him up a bit?

  3. I'm just looking for a slightly down year for the Leafs to improve that 2026 1st round pick the Bruins got for Carlo. It's a win – win for B's fans. We don't have to watch Carlo pussyfoot around anymore and there is hope that the 1st round pick becomes something (no guarantee given Sweeneys history).

  4. Wicked fun. I am here for the doom and gloom, but you knew that. Thanks. Matthews – zero heart, but you also knew that. 1967

  5. As I watched this game, missing my Bruins and the emotional tribute to Marchand, because you have made me and my son Toronto fans Steve, I couldn't help but think exactly what you said, "why is this team so soft?!" Well, look at the guy wearing the C. No emotion, no angst, doesn't look like he cares, no care in interviews. What does he say and how does he say it to his team? Does he want to be in Toronto? Should he represent in the Olympics based on what's going on? I love the guy but where's the raw emotion behind the C?!

  6. Remember when "BEEF" meant something positive in hockey?
Well, the Leafs managed to make "BEEF" a useless hunk of discarded leftover junk food.

  7. And could they have had a softer schedule to begin the season? Except for maybe Montreal, this was the first good team that they played so far, and the next time goes all the way to Carolina on November 9th, I think…it's the only thing going for them right now. A soft schedule?!?!

  8. I think Berube made that challenge because Stolarz opened his mouth. No other reason; it's a panic decision.

Problem with the Leafs is all your top guys got big paydays before they ever accomplished anything, and they're not into it as a result. You get paid, win or lose, so why push it? Been this way forever.

And then when they do show something of pushback, it's ineffectual or too little too late (really, Benoit? You wait until you've lost to get yourself effed up in a fight when there's nothing to fight for?).

  9. The problem is actually very obvious. There is no culture of grit or heart and there hasn't been since the mediocre but tough teams under Burkie. The club's DNA is soft and for years now they keep trying to get tough by adding temporary players around the fringes. Sure, we all know its not easy to find guys like Sam Bennett or Josh Anderson or Tom Wilson, but trying to change a culture by adding guys everyone knows will be gone next year is beyond pointless. I'm gonna say something most people will disagree with, but unless you happen to love losing in the first round EVERY YEAR then I think we should give it some serious thought… trade Willy Nylander for a couple tough but serviceable players. Something like a second line forward and a 3/4 pairing defenseman – oh wait, Willy was just signed to an 8 year $92M contract! The softest, laziest (albeit talented) player on the whole roster was given a FULL NO MOVEMENT contract. From tippy top MLSE administration to the very bottom of the playing roster, this club is irredeemably flaccid and sadly will never win a cup in the Matthews / Nylander era. These MF'ers wasted an entire generation because they wouldn't stand up to Nylander from the start and if he was moved even a couple years ago before his last extension the Leafs would still have Marner and about $12M in cap space to address their material grit issue.

  10. Matthews should not be on the PK. They need a 3rd line center and two good right handed wingers.

  11. i love 34, but man i have my worries that we may never get the 60-69 goal version of him back… he is still a spectacular player, but before when he had the puck you knew he was gonna hit that 3×2 inch hole in the top corner….. now it just feels like he is trying to slap it toward the net and hope it goes in… i dunno if it is his back or his wrist, but feels like it may just never be the same again and this is the version of him we have going forward….. im sure poeple will hate this, but im not saying he is bad. infact i am saying he is still one of the best players in the world, but this version isnt mvp, best in the world, has a chance to pass ovechkin Matthews…. i really hope im wrong here

  12. The goal of senior management was to change the DNA of this team and turn them into a team that would be hard to play against. They would be tough, mean and talented. Unfortunately, the team is just as soft as last year and it seems that other teams are much more aware of this as they seem to be easily steamrolling these marshmallows. If the management wants to change the DNA get a captain with some "Heart" and some forwards other teams actually "FEAR". The D is also a disgrace. This has to be the worst Leafs team I have ever seen in almost 55 years. Stolarz is the only player I would keep at this point. Sportsnet actually blacked out this game in my area and expected me to pay to watch this garbage.

  13. LMAO Palat is not an underrated player. Palat is an overrated player coasting off a reputation he garnered years ago.

  14. I have a theory about last nights game and why they played bad. The leafs were invited to party with the Jays to celebrate and they're all hung over. Thats it.Thats my theory.

  15. They should've kept Marner and nixxed Matthews. It would've been bold as hell but Matthews has absolutely no passion. He exists to skate around and score goals. He doesn't care about the game. He doesn't care about the team. Marner had passion and made plays. Marner cried like a baby at the end of last year. Matthews shrugged. Marner should be on the team and wearing a C patch this year.

  16. I wonder if Marner is watching the Blue Jays mania and taking note of how a Toronto sports team can have a perfectly normal, loyal, healthy relationship with their fans. Even before the Mariners win the narrative was nothing but positivity. Even when they were down 0-2 there was no vitriol or scorn (save for a few daggers pointed in the direction of Schneider). So Mitchy, given what you're seeing in Toronto right now, maybe it isn't the fans? Maybe it isn't the media? Maybe the answer is in the mirror.

  17. I predicted Leafs will either miss the playoffs or barely get in. No surprise what's happening here

  18. Maybe Marner wasn’t the problem. Maybe making 34 the captain was. He is not captain material. Tavares still is.

  19. I don’t know where this team even goes. Matthews post chronic injury can’t drive his own line anymore and looks like a shell of himself. The “depth” they brought in is absolutely useless besides Roy. I want to say blow it up and rebuild but they don’t even have their 1st round pick for the next 2 years. No idea what the right play is here

  20. The team has gotten big for nothing, instead of having individuals that are big for nothing

  21. The Leafs will not win the division.
    "Maybe maybe not."
You have lost all credibility. I can't watch your channel or the Leafs now. Screaming is old on your part, Leafs being soft is old on their part. I'm done.

  22. I really think the only answer is scorched earth. They need to tear it down and start over. Matthews out. Nylander out. Reilly out. Tavares out.

Think of DNA like an office culture. If the office culture is already toxic, changing the things around it doesnt solve the actual problem. And any new good pieces you bring in, they will get ruined by that very culture. The culture truly changes when you remove those people from the office. And culture is always, ALWAYS set by leadership. I think they need to tear it down and their scouting staff need to start targeting certain style players that always go to the net. It definitely aggressive, but it is necessary. Does anyone feel confident this team will do damage in the playoffs? If they make it even. If your answer is no, then what are we doing here then?

  23. Devils fan, good game (just being polite)… expected more from the Leafs for sure but man were the Devils buzzing.

  24. 34 doesn't have the dna of a McKinnon or McDavid to carry a team, ive always thought that and he keeps proving it.

  25. They aren't the same as last year at all, I liked them last year. Thing is I don't think it's because we don't have Marner.
