  1. I don’t think that Montreal and Ottawa’s cupboard was as bare as the Red Wings when Steve took over. I think Stevie had a lot more work to do than either one of those two teams.

  2. Wow Jim I'm surprised you didn't bring up your disco prediction for the Wings missing the playoffs 🤔 I guess it just didn't come up naturally in the conversation…..6:40

  3. These two clowns should have face paint on and shouldn't be allowed to speak on the red wings this year

  4. I hate every time Steve speaks about expectations, leaves you underwhelmed and feels like he’s hedging for failure.

  5. I understand that everyone has their own opinion but anyone that is criticizing Steve’s performance on the job clearly does not understand hockey or grasp the situation he took over. Sure there might be a few mis steps in free agency but that really doesn’t impact the teams long term success.

His drafting and development have set this franchise up for long term success and to contend! I’m sure he could have traded some high end prospects to make the team a playoff team in the short term but they wouldn’t have contended for a cup and it would have come at the cost of long term success in the future.

By being patient and not taking any short cuts Steve has this team poised to be an elite team for the next 10 years! They might still be a year or 2 away and while playoffs would be nice this year their overall outlook is outstanding regardless!

Speaking on behalf of the rational fan base thank you Steve for your excellent work and perseverance in the face of some misguided ignorance!!!

  6. Who cares about getting there quicker? It’s about how long you stay. Ottawa has basically peaked. Montreal has some upward mobility but still need to prove last year wasn’t a fluke.

  7. In this salary cap era, a team's core has to be made up of mostly elite draft picks that are locked down to long term deals. Fact.
Stevie is one of the most knowledgable people in the NHL today and he is taking a calculated approach to building a contender.

It doesn't help that the Wings never got any lottery help in the draft. Steve is a legendary player who embodies what a hardworking, dogged NHL player is and he's drafting like minded individuals. Trust the plan…

  8. 97.1 is filled with dudes who literally don't understand the sport. Get a real hockey head in there who can actually talk some sense into the city. Steve has been doing a fantastic job and I've been saying that for years now. People simply do not understand his approach to this rebuild and it has led to some extremely unwarranted criticism.

  9. "You asked me to pick my team, if I'm on your team- thanks." Steve's humility on his career and accomplishments is incredible.

While there's plenty to debate on the greatest Red Wings players in history, there's no room for debate on the greatest Red Wings captain of all time. Steve's quiet leadership is unparalleled.
