Great job as always on these Rudo.
Exactly, Rudo. "What?" was my response, as well, when I heard Dave Jackson explain what Toronto told him about the offside call. Since when has there ever been such a thing as "player X caused player Y to do such and such, by his actions"? Either Val touched the puck, or the other guy did. If Val doesn't touch the puck, or even the player, how on Earth did he "cause" anything?
We throw this word around a lot, but in this case "unacceptable" is the right word to describe that explanation. I do not accept that. It's completely made up.
I have lot's of issues with that "offside". 1. They got the call wrong. Nichushkin didn't touch the puck or Guenther's stick. Guenther played it back on his own. 2. If NHL fixes their rules and applies the same rules to offside as to "too many men" Nichushkin becomes a non-issue on this play.
Add to the not great hockey was the horrible coverage by ESPN. The horrible camera angles, the interview with the Utah owner for like 6 minutes while the game was going on, and the viewing play by play – getting names wrong, not knowing what the hell their even talking about – one time he even said the guy fell on the floor instead of ice. Just a terrible product. If I was a casual fan, there is no way I would have watched that. Then you add in the Bettman special for his new shiny team on the no goal call. This is why more people don't watch the NHL.
Not the best game, but the Avs seem to always have a hard time to playing against the Yotes and Yote 2.0. The offside call was so bs and the explanation was so weak, put pressure on the opposition is against the rules?
and they say sports betting doesn't affect games like this one…
The Avs didnt have it tonight? Lets face it – Avs simply sucks in defense play….Malinski Solovyov Manson Girard even Makar and Toews simply cant handle the puck in the defense zone….They lose the puck often and easy….Their play is slow sloppy and soft….Reaching the playoffs is max what they will do….Nothing more to my regret….
referee mistakes are part of game, no point thinking about it, you just have to score again better
I'm taking it as a bit of a win in that they played a sloppy and mostly not very good game, with a couple of nice moments, and still got a point.
The offside call was truly bizarre and deserves an explanation with rule citation from Toronto, but we'll never get it.
I didn't think ESPN's hockey coverage could get worse, but a ten minute conversation with the Utah owner while openly rooting for them to score was truly astonishing.
SMASH THAT LIKE DORKS!
Another great review and yet another "WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE AVS THIS WEIRD SHIT HAPPENS TOO?!" Moment
Val is a big scary Russian man and thus scared Guenther into moving the puck into the Mammoth zone
The only thing that should be challengeable is goalie interference. Everything else should just be what the on ice call is. Its so annoying to constantly have these things called back.
Ive watched the Landy goal more than a few times, and I dont think there is a frame in the slow mo where it shows nuke hitting the utah chickens stick, but the puck behavior does change from sliding to wobbling as his stick crosses the spot where stick on stick contact would have been.
Bednar has no balls, need to fire his ass
Excellent review and analysis. I have to start watching these!
