why was Kasper taken off PP1 almost immediately this year but Finnie remains on it indefinitely despite being absolutely awful at it? what is Finnie's track record that he gets this kind of treatment? why does he play in OT over Copp or Berggren or JvR? Again, he is awful at it, visibly noticeably demonstrably awful at it. So unfit for the job that when he's out there he doesn't even make any attempt to play but just sort of waits until an amount of time has passed before skating off for the next group to play. What is his track record that he is on these units? Who IS he? What has he done to earn any of this?
Yzerman asked for patience. A lot of people got impatient. I understood, but I gave him time. Fortunately, it seems like his plan of building from within is actually paying off. Every Yzerman pick that hits the team is making it better. It's a long season, and with it being condensed for the Olympics, a lot can happen. I'm enjoying it though. The Griffins are 8-0 as well. The only remaining undefeated AHL team. They are loaded with more guys at every position who are either ready for the NHL now, or will be soon. Cossa has something like a .939 SV% and 1.75 GAA. Then we have Buchelnikov tearing it up in the KHL (16 pts in 21 GP) and Plante looking great in the NCAA(19 pts in 10 GP.) That's not even getting into Carter Bear. The future is definitely bright. We are at the beginning of a new era of Red Wings hockey.
the Red Wings have scored exactly 1 power play goal so far this year on a power play shift where Emmitt Finnie touched the puck. he's been on the top unit for 7 games now.
he has 1 power play point, and has been on the ice for a shorthanded goal against. meaning he has as many power play points as the other team has shorthanded goals with him on the power play.
he is not doing 'an admirable job'. the times the unit has scored – other than his garbage time power play assist to Larkin vs New York – it's been an almost immediate strike by the other 4 guys, and Finnie hasn't even gotten looked at during it.
he can't do the job, so why does he have the job? and this goes double for him playing in overtime. a cut of his overtime on-ice work to this point would be embarrassing for the kid. he seems to have imposter syndrome in the 3v3 OT and to realize just how outskilled he is by the other players. in 3v3 there is no hiding.
this kid was put on the top line BY DEFAULT. not bc he is a 1st liner (he's very much not). at some point McLellan seems to have lost sight of that, or forgotten it. Finnie is on the top line bc they don't have an actual guy to play there. you don't start treating him like a real first liner and giving him all these other lineup and usage benefits that normally go with being a first liner. he's not a real first liner, but a makeshift or stopgap. he does not become better than Kane or DeBrincat or Kasper bc he's on that line. he does not even become better than JvR or Berggren or Copp bc he's on that line.
this coach seems to be viewing this kid at this point almost as if he's his son. i've never seen anything like it in the NHL.
Nice win against a talented team! Celebrini is fun to watch. I don't know I just prefer Cam in net over Gibson (despite the NYI game where the whole team was crap). Wasn't impressed with Larkin in OT though…made some horrible plays. Mo finally got his goal 😂
I think what Cam means is that with a wide range of Wings fan presence, He's reminded enough of the Rangers not to miss them so much. The Rangers have road trips like that, too.

Larkin is captain material completely!
Next time, try not to blow an eventful lead. Nonetheless, nice shootout win, boys!
Not pretty, but two points.
That hat Talbot has on can u buy that online.
Mo definitely has to use his shot more
“You guys won, can you explain why that’s a good thing?” -me
I feel like after studying these reporters, I now have what it takes to join the media groups in the locker room.
“We lose one of our best power play guys”
“We replace him with a 20 year old , I think he’s doing an admirable job”
Wow
Cam Talbot seems like such a good dude.
Stressful game for sure, we were slip and sliding all of OT, glad we got the DUB
Go Wings Go

Great game, should have been an easy win but the Sharks goalie was on fire
For the people who hated on guys like Copp and Chariot these past couple years, what do you have to say now?
