well said …
When your blue line is Nurse and an aloof Bouchard – that’s gonna be rough. And trust me I remember seeing that abomination that was the Burns Ferraro pairing in San Jose burn my soul to the depths of Tartarus.
Yes and lack of depth too they're fucked
Skinner wouldn't even be the starting goaltender for the northwest territories
Everyone who says "trade the backup" is an idiot. Changing Pickard out for someone else changes Nothing. Zero. The problem is the starter. Skinner is too inconsistent to be a starter in a pressure market. Connor Ingram is unplayable, and the Oilers don't beat LA without Pickard. Ridiculous.
Dumb question…the Oiler goalies couldn't crack the lineup on an elite Girl Guide ringette team.
Goaltending is not the reason for the Oilers slow start, the top players on the team have not played well to start the year, just like the last 2 seasons. Goaltending is however the reason they lost the last 2 cups. So an upgrade is needed. BTW Knoblach takes a 3 second pause before he answers most questions. So I wouldn't read anything into that.
Prior to last nights game bobrovsky had worse stats than skinner this year. Skinner also had better numbers than bob for the 2023-2024 cup finals. Bob makes 5x the money. There are no guarantees in goaltending and after still paying for campbell, the oilers are understandably hesitant to reade away key pieces to obtain and make cap space for a different goaltender.
You mean still
Expected goals is always lower than actual goals.
I remember when the Montreal Canadiens drafted Zachary Fucale (the best goaltender from the experts that year), the Edmonton Oilers were not happy. I remember saying to myself 'Of course, Edmonton has a goalie problem and wants to get a good goalie'… and it was in 2013 and since then, the goalie issue is not resolved yet.
Dont even need to watch the video to answer that. Yes
(But I still will watch ❤️)
leaf fans talking about goaltending right now? both of your goalies stink!
There’s an excellent example of the injury bet on the Oilers. The Devils let Curtis Lazar walk after his $1 mil / yr expired, coming off a nagging knee injury. Everyone liked him, but they clearly didn’t like what the medical staff was saying. He signed for $750 in Edmonton, and the Devils picked up Glendening on a PTO (and he has been really good, in fairness). But the Oilers took that Lazar bet where the Devils didn’t, and he has one point (a garbage time goal) in only 5 games started for Edmonton, where they probably wanted him to lock down 4c, or a 4th line winger spot.
We love Paul Cotter. He got write-in votes for President in Jersey last November.
If Canada had 4 Olympic teams…is the best skinner line EVER lol.
They should go after UPL
short answer: yes
As a Winnipeg fan who happened to attend the 9-1 loss to Colorado, Edmonton definitely shut it off. I would have expected some hits, or fights, or someone to step up and show some emotion. Nothing from Edmonton. Goal tending wasn’t good, but that was not the sole problem.
Seeing Leafs fans talk about another team having issues is peak irony. I love it
And yes, the oilers have goaltending issues…water is wet too
Corey crawford was decent and consistently decent. Thats all you need
Do the Leafs have a goaltending problem?
I would like to know how many teams who have won the cup in the past 25 years did so without an amazing performance from their goaltender. The fact the Oilers had to compensate for their lack of adequate goal tending and still made it to the finals 2 times in a row was a remarkable achievement.
The Oilers got off to worse starts with Borberg, Holloway, Foegel, et al, so that kind of defeats your thesis. Not that I approve of how the Oilers are playing. But if you extrapolate, this start to the season has them on pace to win the cup 😉
I want a new goalie more than most, but if you’re talking facts, you have to be clear: Skinner’s save percentage is like 16th among the top 35 goalies in ice time, and that’s not the dregs, dudes.
Spot on 2:30. And he expects McDavid and his crew to outscore other teams, which has gotten them far but only because McDavid is there. The kicker is they refuse to overall the D core as well, which are a laughing stock and turnover machines.
only times oilers goalies made stops were on our pp lmao still 9-1 going 0/7 on the pp lmao
To say Corey Crawford is Osgoodish is a compliment actually. Red Wings FAILED to even reach final since 2002 (when prime Hasek was there) until Osgood came back and carried the team to two finals again. Plus, Osgood is 400+ win goalie lol. He was a legend.
funny to think oilers at one time had tim thomas in there system shipped him off and he won a cup with boston like what 5 years later lol
oilers moved on from pat quinn after only like one year i think like how dumb can u be to only give him one year .
you guys seem to forget kempuer got hurt in our cup run and frankie came in and went 6-0 with a shutout vs the oilers lol 😛
we have bigger issue than our goalies …. yikes lmao
As someone whos beer league team has lost 10-1 twice and 10-2 once in the past 7 games can confirm some players definitely mail it in after a bit. I like the exercise, not completely committed to backchecks but eh its ok when youre down 5 or 6 goals
Oilers don’t have a goaltending problem, they have a GM problem. Should have traded Kane for Dan Vladar or similar years ago.
All you need to do is watch the Avs last year….bad goal tending and they traded BOTH of their goalies!!!! Then they lucked into better performers in Blackwood and Wedgewood. That is what Edmonton need to do…and if you cant trade the goalies, then need to look at trading others.
Just start Connor Ingram.
Are the goalies (particularly Skinner) a problem? Absolutely. However, the Oilers have had a massive problem outside of that for 5 years now: their defense is atrocious.
Nurse ($9.25 million) should've never gotten that contract, and they're pairing him with someone who's earning $775k. Bouchard: $10.5 million and is 10-15 places from bottom for +/- in the league.
Skinner and Pickard are on $3.6 million combined, and they have 5 out of 6 defensemen earning more than either of them.
Bowman said the right thing last trade deadline: what’s he going to say ‘yes we need to improve our goaltending’ That just gives teams free reign to fleece them in trades for a goalie and shatters the confidence of the goalies you have.
Starting goalies are hard to come by. IMO there isn’t 32 of them and anyone that does become available is usually a gamble.
Lets put this in perspective. The Avs had a goaltending problem last year and gutted them in December. Turned things around. Edmonton could possibly be B2B Cup Champs if the GM had testosterone levels in the double digits to make it happen.
