Patrick Kane leads the Red Wings in power play points and is tied for the lead in power play goals under Todd McLellan despite having played 14 fewer games than Larkin and DeBrincat and 12 fewer games than Raymond. Kane has the highest on-ice goals/60 on the power play on the Wings over the past 3 years. Kane is a point a game under McLellan thru 50 games, and has 1348 career points and 494 career goals. Kane for his career is +118 at 5v5, +533 on the power play. Among players with at least 20 minutes of ice time in 3v3 OT the last 3 years, Kane is 2nd in the entire NHL in goals per 60 in 3v3 OT.
Kane is now, 7 games into his season a critical season in one of the most important careers in NHL history, buried on a 2nd line that is really a 4th line, a punishment line designed to punish him (for what, no one is sure), with no talent AHL player Emmitt Finnie and no talent offense suppressant JT Compher, a player who has proven particularly incompatible with Kane over extensive ice time together the past 2 years. Kane 7 games into this historic crucial season also finds himself now demoted to the 2nd power play unit, while no-talent AHL player Emmitt Finnie (1 power play point in 16 career games, 8 total points) and mid AHL prospect Nate Danielson (0 career points, 1 NHL game) are on the top unit. When Kane plays in 3v3 OT he plays 3rd or 4th, with no-talent linemates he can't play with. Ahead of him we have seen Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat, Kasper and Emmitt Finnie in 3v3 OT.
Todd McLellan in a nearly 20 year career as an NHL head coach has never won a thing. No Stanley Cups in 18 seasons. No Finals appearances in 18 seasons. No coach of the year awards in 18 seasons. 6 playoff series wins in 18 seasons, and only 2 playoff series wins in the last 15 seasons. Only 3 playoff appearances in the last 12 seasons. Fired 3 times. Has coached a boatload of hall of famers, and done nothing with them. He wasted the entire prime of the best group the San Jose Sharks have ever had; he coached them 7 years. They fire him, they make the Finals the very next season. He had McDavid and Draisaitl, and had a winning record once in 4 years with them. Every single year since McLellan was fired so far, the Oilers have made the playoffs and posted a points % of around .600 or better. Yet him and Yawney had them with losing records 3/4 years immediately preceding that.
Todd McLellan is a terrible head coach and is proving to be an even worse person, now that we see him up close and see his treatment of Patrick Kane.
The two times McLellan led the Kings to the playoffs, they met his former team the Oilers, and McDavid and Draisaitl both times blasted them out of the playoffs immediately by putting up the craziest numbers ever in those series. Having now seen how McLellan treats legends, how he treats superstar talent, how he delights in hamstringing it and punishing it, I have no doubt that McDavid and Draisaitl hated him w a passion and took great personal pleasure in doing that to him in the playoffs.
Kane will never face him in the playoffs again (neither is ever likely to make the playoffs again) but he can take solace in knowing that he helped destroy Todd's Sharks in the WCF sweep in 2010, the farthest round McLellan ever got to or ever will.
How ‘bout those Griffins?
All these moves are just a mad scramble to see if something works. Right now it looks like a desperate team trying to get a couple wins
It was fun while it lasted but 88 is gone ,believe me he wanted to be a Wing but this will be the last straw !
Rasmussen is better in the press box. You don’t have to watch him skate by a check or whiff on a one timer or not stick up for himself much less a teammate. Watching Rasmussen type of hockey makes me not want to watch. With that said the only spot big softy Rasmussen can play is screening out the net minder.
If Kane isn’t on your first power play what do you have him on the team for then. Kanes biggest asset is having him work the power play. Make him the Larionov of the power play then go from there.
Rasmussen blocking two would be goals tonight is going to drive us all wild
Power play unit 1 struggling they say? Wow, did these PODCASTERS just notice that there's actually a problem on PP1, but of course they'll never place any blame on nearly $9 mil a year man, Mo Seider, who is so timid handling the puck. You can see him handing off the puck to a forward before crossing center ice literally 99.99999% of the time. Seider has NO SKILLS running the power play. I will expect little to nothing from that line if Seider continues to play a key role in the Wings power play. So long as the coaches continue to put Seider in a key role on offense, i hope they learn quick enough that Seider is not the one you want running a power play. I don't think the Wings want to learn from their mistakes.
Congrats guys. Well deserved.
This team is garbage! Trying to move a bunch of guys around is not going to matter! It unfortunately looks like the yzerplan is an yzerflop! WE NEED A STAR YZERMAN MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!
Seider's skating is getting worse which makes no sense to me. It seemed to have started as soon as he was paired with bonehead. He is obviously a very weak shot from the point. 2nd pair D long term
