Funny, you bring up the 06 finals, i just got a Dwayne Roloson jersey with the finals patch.
It's stunning to witness such an egregious and patently gross miscalculation by Bowman on Frederic. I can't remember any situation in the world of professional sports where a minor league talent walked away with $32M USD. A contract that is even worse than Jack Campbell. That alone is a fire-able offense for Bowman. Every farm team hockey player must be shaking their heads feeling so outraged and deflated because they know they are far more talented than Frederic and will never make that kind of money in their professional hockey career. At least Campbell had elite talent. It's what was between Campbell's ears that sunk Campbell. But Frederic, is not a complicated case. There is no pro level talent here – from head to toe. There is no passion , no drive, no hunger, no guts, no glory, no risk, no nothing. Frederic is a $32M zombie on skates that has no business being in the NHL. If anything is going to sink Bowman's job with the Oilers it's going to be the Frederic contract and not securing a #1 or at least a back up between the pipes. As they say in Hollywood, not one director, producer or movie studio will touch that actor with a 10 foot pole. That's where we are with Frederic.

The Oilers have a 100% win ratio when Hyman plays. That aside, despite Howard's lack of experience, he was providing more value to the team than other players, like Frederic… and maybe Lazar. I hardly notice any contribution from this players, although maybe he does not get many minutes to show anything at all. I hope lines get some consistency once RNH joins the team after having recovered from his injury.
I feel like the fans saying "it doesn't matter how, just how many points" is why the Oilers organization has issues that last over multiple seasons without ever getting fixed. The Truth is, it really Does matter HOW you win, not just THAT you win. Its why all the Oilers haters have been saying for years that the Oilers are just McDavid and Draisaitl and nothing else; because, in fact, they have been right all along. Even the coach himself proves it, both by saying the team identity is Leon and Connor, and also by overplaying them and ruining the confidence of the entire rest of the team. Look, I am happy when the Oilers get points, get wins, i want to see them make the playoffs and win the Cup. But two playoffs in a row now, we see what running the team this way accomplishes; you cannot just expect a few great players to continually make up for team and organization mismanagement…yet the Oilers have blinded hoped that it was so, for years on end now, without ever getting the result they (and we the fans) want. So my excitement over this win, is tempered. They McDrai'd their way to a win, again. That isn't sustainable, and that isn't a proper team sport. And it HAS To Change.
