I myself think that Mathew’s has taken the COVID shot and it has affected his play, gets hurt very easily got no get up and go, can’t carry the puck in . That’s my take and he should be made to get a complete checkup including all blood work and anything else thats needed to get to the bottom of this. And he takes very short shifts and he’s out of wind.

Tree rested on his laurels and thought the D needed nothing. Even the great Montreal teams of the 70s tweaked their teams year to year. There is no heart,or passion. Even when they were healthier earlier on, they were still playing scared.

Trading Nylander and Reilly will go MUCH further than trading Matthews. Matthews just has to be stripped of C and given a secondary role, not even an 'A' role. Just a pure top line goal scoring winger, move him off C. Use Reilly and Nylander to acquire a true leading 'C'.
I'd trade Reilly, Carlo, Nylander and Stolarz for Connor and D.Nurse and bring up Ben Danford to the 1st team.

I would fire Berube & hite Pete DeBoer as head coach. I know he had a bad ending in Dallas with his goalie. DeBoer would given them a fresh idea with systems but ubless the players change which it won't even Deboer wouldn't be able to navigate this mess.

This is a team that's rebelling against the management of the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a mutiny. Letting Mitch Marner go was the breaking point. Look at the Blue Jays to see how a team should be built. On the Jays team, they play well for one another, not for the organization and not for the money.

Probably worth noting re: the Habs. They were in the SCF in 2021, with a vet squad, they tore it down, including Carey price and shea weber, and are back to the playoffs with the NHLs youngest team in 2025. I think the leafs have to do the same. I’d trade Mathews, honestly. He’s the piece to get the picks and prospects you need to kick off the retool. Maybe nylander too.

Finally some people that doesnt fool themselfs and recognize the problem, and its partly your No 34 "Captain" Matthews, the "Leader" on the Leafs. Mysteriously missing for a couple of weeks each season without anyone knowing whats going on anyways with his health and for the frame he has, he is so soft, never gets involved in anything or god forbid fight someone. All I have ever seen him doing is taking cheap shots at opponents when its not going for him (like the High Stick from Behind to a Red Wings Player early in the Season for example).
The Leafs never had real team spirit in the Dressing room the last couple of years. But what the Leafs could count on was their unbelievable talented forward group and unfortunately the best playmaking forward decided to leave and the Managers decided not to move Marner when they could. So now the lifeless Leafs dont have a playmaking forward (like Marner anyways, I know Nylander is also good) and the lack of talent and team spirit shows now in massive ways.
The Leafs have made so many mistakes it's not funny. They continually hire Gms who have no idea what to do except overpay for other teams washouts and continually help Boston. They are either stupid or destroying the team on purpose. I think a lot of fans are finally done with this clown outfit. The team really sucks.
