Saturday against Montreal is what happens when Berube doesn't have last change and can't shelter his lineup. The team is playing Nylander hockey. No forecheck, no backcheck, no hitting, no defense. They are last in the Atlantic, any ranking above an F is being generous. We should be talking about who the team is moving on from to recover some draft picks.

38:40 speaking of olympics, if im leafs organization, im sitting Matthews down and letting him know he isnt going to the olympics this season. Idc how mad he will be. His health is already a question a quarter into the season, there is no way he should be going there and risk the injury getting worse when the team who pays him needs him to be healthy. But that would be my decision. I dont think leafs management are ruthless enough to do whats best for the team.

This is 100 % on the MLSE incompetent management style. Retooling should have been done in 2022. Now retooling is no longer available because they no longer have value added assets.

That delayed penalty passing clinic by Montreal was the longest I have ever seen in almost 55 years of watching hockey…lol.
From the moment the Leafs blew their load on Tavares, despite already having a solid 2C in Kadri, the problem has always been the d-corp. When they moved on from Marner they should have had a plan to bring in at least a top 4 D. Instead they picked up some loose parts forwards.
The best thing to do is to bring up your best players from the Marlies…Pezzetta should have been there against Montreal, he wouldn't have ran away from Xhekaj…there's no one on this team that sparks up the bench and the pushback is pathetic. Montreal, roughing up the Leafs??? This is nothing new, they were like this with Reaves in the lineup, no fight, no energy and it's obvious that they don't care about their teammates…you'll never see a bench clearing brawl with this bunch.
If they do anything with Villeneuve is they'll trade him for some stiff and he'll go on to have a good career somewhere else…

You guys talk about Simon Benoit like he's a disappointment when in past years he's been doing fine. When your team doesn't play a sound defensive system, everyone who's left back there will look bad. Tell me one leafs defenseman who's playing great right now, there's not one of them, Rielly, Mr 7.5 million is a complete disgrace, McCabe screws up more than his fair share, I guess oekman larsson is playing ok, Tanev could be gone forever, Stecher was picked on waivers…So, my point is, when the team doesn't play soundly as a unit, it leads to this. Benoit use to play between 10-15 minutes max a game and was fine that's why he's a third pairing dman not your top pairing which is the most pathetic in the NHL. Rielly is a complete joke, he barely ranks in the top 75 dmen in the league but he's payed like a top 10…his best days are years behind because last year was a disaster for him…
We complained a lot about keefe but you know what? He did bench guys when he saw crap efforts. ( yes he would apologize later but ever player knew they had to put in the effort). Keefe needed 1 year with stolarz and woll. Keefe was saddled with samsonov and camble and still had more wins than any other while he was coaching in Toronto.
