As long as the players we know can play good, play like AHL talent, we can't say that. The D and the Top 9 should still play way better even if we lost quality in depth

Roster construction? lol. They have the same points as they had last year after 21 games. 90% of the league is in the same spot within a handful of points of each other.
It's obviously more than just this, such as mistakes and whatnot that need to be corrected, but it's called HARD WORK.
How many games this year have the outworked the team they're playing? Probably on one hand. So I don't care who you're playing, but if you don't out work the other team, you're really minimizing your chances of winning. And it doesn't matter if it's Buffalo or Carolina.
Also, I'll join the simple minded bandwagon and s#$t all over the goaltending when this team plays well in front of them. How many high danger chances were the Oilers giving up at their best? 5? 6? They're giving up over 20 on some nights! And it's the goaltending? lol.
Let's see when rnh is back. He plays in all situations and 20 mins per game. Hyman gets up to speed. Savoie will get better . Plus kapanen to the bottom 6 with his speed and physical play and some support scoring. Plus Ingram . Mangiapane to the bottom 6 should help some support scoring.
I honestly dont see Frederics value. If he fought more, maybe, but he is slow and rarely capitalizes on great chances. We need to go 11-7, subbing Nurse in as a winger ( which is what he is as he has no defense awareness or position knowledge) or doubling Drai and McD. Henrique needs more offense, but also more playing time i feel.

They keep f**king it up with their pathetic signings and trades and then go scrambling around like mad every summer with the few coins worth of cap space they haven't pissed away on some overhyped goofball only to find themselves in the same position!
This team is going NOWHERE until it stops making goddam excuses and starts putting some QUALITY players on the ice with some HEART and some DRIVE instead of rummaging around in the spare parts bin and hoping for the best.
Without 97 and 29, this team is not even in the same time zone as the playoffs!
The luckiest part for Oilers objectively is they’re not in the same division as the Aves. As long as they are a top3 seed in Pacific and relatively healthy I still would pick them to beat anyone in the West not named Aves. Maybe Stars are a tougher out this year though with more team chemistry plus Wyatt Johnson a year older.
Enough with this fatigued from another season bull crap. They have 2.5 months off. They arent tired from last season with all the off ice and recovery tech and knoledge these days.
When is anyone going to admit the defensive effort just isn’t there. And it leave Skinner exposed who isn’t good enough carry a team. They don’t play as a team the Bouchard signing proved they would pay no effort guys.

They have been trying to build a team around McJ for 10 years. It seems to me that the issue is McD NOT building the team. Move McD and use the money to build a team. I am so surprised McD gave another home town discount.
I bet they pull it together after Dec 19 and travel schedule will allow us to bounce back before the break.
This team isn't the same without Coffey! Bring Coffey back! He would put the defense in line. You can see they have completely turned soft. They need him back asap

Nope they didn't. They need some BIG "D" changes and Knobby needs to go elsewhere. He cannot coach these guys any longer. We need a Goalie and at least 3 defensemen. Ekholm, Bouchard and Wallman need to get as lost in the NHL as they have been on the ice this season. The rest I think can adapt. Janmark has been silent since his return as well. A big shake up is needed to get the lazy out of the team. We need more hitting, aggresion, sustained forechecking and start knocking people down in front of the net. We are way too soft in our zone. Dump, forecheck, grind down to the puck and hustle with backcheck. Play the full 60 minutes without being LAZY!!!
