The scouting department is not effective enough at identifying talented, gritty, or skilled players, and the General Manager subsequently trades away the valuable players, leaving the team with depleted resources. The $uccess is in the advertising and marketing.

We can’t give Tree another trade deadline. He’s already pissed away too much draft capital. Bring in Armstrong and Futa to navigate this rebuild. Tell Matthews and Nylander the team is going in another direction and to submit a list of teams. Need to try and get their 26 back from Boston and 27 from Flyers.
Too many athletes today, and not just hockey , but it appears Toronto has its share, get paid the big bucks and so what really is the incentive to win? Why go above and beyond or even what should be expected when you don’t have to? Why play when a little banged up when you don’t have to? All this crap about salary cap going up so everyone should get more. That is such a joke. You get more when you deserve more. I am willing to see what happens by Christmas if and when everyone gets back. But one thing I would do: Tell 34 he is not going to Olympics. Get healthy or whatever and earn your cash and help your team. I could go on but that is enough for now.
Leafs should hire Rosie to an assistant coaching gig asap
Last year was the Leafs window to win a Stanley Cup. All the players (warts and all) were primed and ready. But as usual when it required the most grit and effort, they faltered. If you can't win with these guys and the farm has minimal talent…no retool, just rebuild. Imagine the picks they can get for 34, 88 and 44. Build around Knies.
I predicted this in the summer. All play went through Marner. You cut out the heart of a team and it dies. The ML have to start over…a mortal mistake. I would have made Marner a Hutson style defenseman during the playoffs…

FWIW I think Jay could be a good NHL coach if he wanted to be. At the very least an important assistant.
PS Nylander is also a positive on the season even if people don’t always like his body language and he floats some. Being tied for 5th in points has to count for something. 29 points in 19 games is a 125 point pace over 82 game season! He’s also +5 so his lines on the whole win. 2nd best on the team as Matthews is +9. Those two, JT, Knies aren’t the problem it’s horrid defense, inconsistent goaltending, and depth period outside the 5 best forwards. Robertson has been solid too when given a chance as has Cowan.
They will be fine , they have a coach who was 19 games out at Christmas. Mind ya I do drink a lot 🤓.

I feel 95% NHL players play only to sign ridiculous contracts. The team work and dedication required to win a cup is simply something they can’t or choose not to go to war.
Can we finally acknowledge that trading away good prospects and 1st round draft picks every year for marginal upgrades to the 3rd and 4th line is a stupid idea? Every year they do it, and every year I cringe but everyone applauds them for it. If they are upgrading to a Taylor Hall, Brad Marchand or Mikko Rantanen type player, sure, do it. But its always these guys that make your team what, like 1% better? And its not just last year, yes last year was terrible but its every year they do the same dumb trades just for the sake of doing something before the playoffs, Im sick of it.
Dare I say Toronto needs another team.. ? 🤔 Tbh, this would be the BEST thing for this miserable franchise
Unlike the Jays , the Leafs are limited in team salary. Which means you need competence from the top down. So much for the Leafs.
