I am sure the complete lack of defense is not an issue. The Stars owned the slot in front of the Oilers net. A new goalie will fix that, I'm sure.

i'll never cease to be amazed to see how petty the Edmonton 'faithful' have been over the past 4 or so years, scapegoaating their goalie for literally every nasty loss. The way they have destroyed Skinners confidence and they also did it to Jack Campbell who was actually among the better goalies in the league before coming to Edmonton 3 years ago. Milke Smith also received much of the same blame game bs at the end of his career 4 years ago. Just watch 2 of the 4 goals Skinner gave up yesterday, where he had ZERO chance. Is it not easy to see how shabby the defense has been? Guys who are scoring against this team are literally all alone with the puck, with no one in between them and the goalie half the time. Yeah, he gives up bad goals too, but after being shell shocked and blamed on a regular basis, its no big surprise the guy can't give his best. Confidence in your team mates goes a long way. They destroyed Campbells career, and are now doing the same with this guy. Put him behind a defense like Carolina or the Rangers where they take care of the goalie, and i bet he'd be more than adequate.
Not much difference from last years Avs. They had a better defense though.

Not saying the Oilers don't need another goalie, but the first thing they have to do is get some kind of defensive system in place that involves the forwards and defense. The turn overs and high quality chances the Oilers are giving up are killing their chances of winning hockey games. Most goalies are as successful as the team defense in front of them. Every year we talk about the best goalies in the league and almost all the time they play on good playoff teams. Crappy defensive teams will give up a lot of goals no matter who is in net. It is not the number of shots a goalie stops it is the number of grade A chances your team gives up that makes the difference. Not sure why this is rarely talked about in hockey coverage. The Oilers problems are far bigger than who is between the pipes.

Goalie should give you a chance to win. The first intermission should have been 1-0 or 2-0. Team regroups, makes changes and grinds it out. They had no chance after 20. 4-0? Not even this team could come out of that.
The whole root of the Oiler’s problems is their Captain is a huge Debbie Downer and that cloud has spread to the team 🌧️ trade McDavid for a ransom and make Edmonton Leon’s team.
Nobody who’s “available” is a guaranteed upgrade when the team is playing like that in front of him. Now the Oilers will put themselves in a bad spot making a lateral trade, because they’re desperate and every potential trade partner knows it. Meanwhile Skinner will probably go and rebound with a different team and Edmonton will be destroying yet another goaltender.

The first thing I look for in a talented hockey team with championship goals that tells me whether or not they can make it is their willingness to skate in the o-zone and get dirty goals, and their willingness to challenge the opponent through the neutral zone and into the d-zone. Teams that retreat towards their goalie to block shots instead of challenging the skater get beat every time. It’s a mindset, are you making them react to you or reacting to them. The sad part is a lot of it is just effort and work. But that’s what champions are, talent that works hard as a team.

It's is totally not only Skinners fault, where is team's defence, I tought that they could do their job, as they are one of most expensive teams when it comes to def. With proper def they would be in top3, but if teams overall performance is not adressed in weeks, playoffs will be dream. I support Dallas myself, but it is sad to look the game that oilers are playing time to time, as close games are the thing that I enjoy watching
This team doesn't play as a team. Defensively, they are loose. Offensively, they can't play with their potential. The goalies are the disasters. If we can't see improvement in the very near future, I am sure that this will be a bad year.

Probably Edmonton Oilers as a team do not have what is sometimes called an "Eye of a tiger". IMHO in most of their games in this season there is no passion and eagerness to fight as a team. They often (not in every game but too often) seem like just some randomly collected group of guys playing some hockey for fun. No chemistry, no fire, no "Eye of a tiger", alas… And it is hard to say who is to be blamed, what should be done and who should be fired? Coach? D-men? Goalie? General manager?
Skinner is an average NHL goalie but because the Oil have been so bad playing in front of him and it really exposes him. Shakeup is needed. Love Skinner being a local guy getting the team to a stanely cup twice but the team in front of him is so bad, he cant save this team. He isn't good enough to steal games.
