Hope they Win the cup this year
💯 the goaltending retool has been remarkable, maybe one of the best we've seen if they keep this up.
McFarland pulled some wizardry last year, our acquisitions have panned out nicely in Burns/Nelson/Olafsson, and Brindley. We develop players nicely in Malinski and Kivi, and then you have the resurgence of Gabe. That’s how you end up with this absolute juggernaut of a team
Than we think? We already KNOW. This team is absolutely insane this season.
My nhl team rankings
SC contenders:
Avs,stars,Lightning
Canes
Playoff teams:
Bruins,Canadiens,Sens,
Devils, Capitals,Wild,Kings Golden Knights
Might Make it: any remaining metro teams, Red Wings, Blackhawks, Sharks, Kraken
Everyone else will likely miss playoffs injuries can and will affect this list later in year but I think this is a solid list
Historically, the last 'real' team to win both the Presidents' Trophy and the Stanley Cup in the shootout era was the 2007-08 Detroit Red Wings. In 82 regular season games, they accumulated 115 points (not trying to discredit 2012/13 Chicago Blackhawks but they did it in way less games). Funnily enough, when the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2022, they were not Presidents' Trophy winners but they got 4 more points than the Red Wings team mentioned above in the regular season.
To this day, the best team to win the Stanley Cup in terms of points accumulated in an 82-game regular season in the shootout era is the 2021/22 Colorado Avalanche with 119 points. Any teams who had accumulated 120+ points in the regular season (shootout era) have not won the Stanley Cup. In this season, the Avalanche are projected to pick up 138 points after 82 games.
I'm not saying what McFarland pulled off with the goalies is normal but it's possible. Edmonton has to make a move, why would they continue to not address the goalie position?
great breakdown, if they keep going like this nobody can stop them
After last season everyone was trashing on the team and the depth that was acquired and now it’s blowing up in their faces
Canucks starting December with an L, that’s great 😢
You can tell how much the Avs needed their Captain back. MacK needs someone to balance out the WIN WIN WIN mentality with team spirit. Hell, you can even see it by how every time Landy scores, MacK is smiling like a baby. We're witnessing a team in extremely high spirit, and honestly who could blame them. Having your Captain return from a 3 year long injury battle after he lead you to their first Stanley Cup in 20 years. It's beautiful.
The Thanksgiving deadline for making the Yoffs is exactly why NHL needs to shorten the number of games played. What the heck is the point of playing so many games if it only takes 2 months to set the table? Less games makes players more fresh and energetic during the games. When Yoffs come they too have more energy. Less games means more value per game. Less games mean less fighting with NBA for time slot at the arena so more night games and less day games which always suck.
