In the beginning I'm not going to lie, I was all in on Hughes. Let's go get him. But i did some homework, i think we should pass on this one boys. First, he is kinda injury prone. Second I've watched him play the last two games and it doesn't look like he's playing with any heart. He's a captian. I know for a fact SY loves guys that never give up and play hard through thick and thin.
I'm not sure we take such a risk on an injury pro e player.
It feels like it's more up SY alley to go through the panicked teams and find shut down Dmen minus Hughes.
All of the Red Wings podcasts are beating this Quinn Hughes rumour to death
I would rather they trade for Owen Power considering he is a giant and the asking price would actually be reasonable
"Tougher teams" looks at schedule with Flames and Canucks, "redacted"
If you want Hughes in Detroit you better book a flight to Fantasy Island
If the Canucks are looking to trade Quinn Huggy Bear Hughes to Detroit, first and foremost, GET HUGGY BEAR OVER HERE! OUR BLUE LINE NEEDS DRASTIC IMPROVEMENT! Fangasming aside, this trade is absolutely more likely to happen than to say Huggy gets traded to New Jersey, given how Detroit's prospect pool is much deeper. As for what the trade is more likely to entail, given the past trade dealings that Rutherford had dealt with during his time with the organization, it will probably be more underwhelming than some may think, especially if you're going to do a deal with Steve Yzerman. Yzerman ABSOLUTELY LOVES his prospects that he and his team draft, and I don't blame him since that is easily the best part of him being a GM (we don't talk about the free agency signings, but admittedly, that portion has slightly improved with signings like van Reimsdyk and Appleton). Ultimately, what this means is that Yzerman wouldn't want to give up any of his high-end prospects like ASP in a trade like this since ASP was drafted BY Yzerman, which means he is basically untouchable. The same applies to those like Seider and Edvinsson. However, considering that Quinn Hughes is being discussed as the trade target, this is probably an exception to this rule regarding other Yzerman-drafted prospects, especially when players like Marco Kasper are going through a seriously concerning sophomore slump (much to my shagrin, unfortunately).
What will this trade look like exactly? The best-case scenario, considering that the Canucks are desperate down the middle and are in a tanking position, I can easily foresee getting a high-end center prospect (Marco Kasper or Max Plante), and at most 2 separate 1st round draft picks out of Detroit for starters. Considering Huggy Bear is a defensman, Vancouver probably wants a defensman back. With that being said, I can also foresee Yzerman trading some defensive prospects that currently reside in Grand Rapids, such as William Wallinder, Shai Buim, and Antti Tuomisto. Whether that be one, two, or all three of those defenseman is left to be said, but those will likely be in the package as well. Huggy Bear is by far one of, if not the greatest, defenseman in the NHL. However, his value is at an all-time low this season. Considering he hasn't been as defensively sound this season, and in terms of production, he is currently projected to be more so in a down year compared to the past two seasons, that unfortunately has decreased his overall value. Lastly, Huggy Bear, just like his brother Jack, is more injury-prone than normal. I blame that mostly on his INCREDIBLY high ice times he has been clocking in every game, but also on the fact that he doesn't look as physically threatening compared to other top defenseman like Lian Bischel. That's why he has to outplay, outdefend, and outscore all of his opponents. With these other factors coming into play, getting four 1st round draft picks out of Yzerman is very unlikely, especially when Yzerman is known to play a hard bargain.
Yes, I know that everyone wants to point at the Jake Walman trade being a point against my previous claim, but one nuance people forget is that Walman was allegedly causing issues in the Red Wings Locker Room. That's why we've seen Walman and a third get traded to San Jose. It's clear he fit much better in San Jose to the point where he brought up his value to a 1st Round pick and traded to the Oilers, but I digress. Truth be told, I do wish Yzerman did get some form of draft pick from San Jose instead of trading for future considerations, but I do understand why he did so.
With all of this being said, let's recap what this trade could look like in the best-case scenario:
Vancouver Receives:
Two 1st Round Picks (2026 and 2027)
A High-End Prospect Center (Marco Kasper or Max Plante)
A couple of Defensive Prospects (William Wallinder, Shai Buim, and/or Antti Tuomisto)
Detroit Receives:
Quinn Hughes
Let me be clear when I say this…..I DO NOT WANT MARCO KASPER TRADED AWAY! I think he is Detroit's future 2C, and I hate that this sophomore slump is currently happening to him. With that being said, considering how low his value is right now, he may unfortunately be the odd man out here. I also don't want Max Plante gone since he is currently breaking NCAA records in terms of scoring, but if he is traded for Quinn Hughes, it's certainly still a huge benefit nonetheless even if the trade-off would certainly hurt.
Now, let's take a look at the worst-case scenario on what a Quinn Hughes trade could look like with Vancouver and Detroit:
Wings aren’t getting Hughes, he wants to go to Jersey. Wings aren’t going to get anybody, nobody wants to play there.
Quinn want's to go to NJ.
Thanks for showing up guys, feel better scotty!!
To get him to come here and that's just to get him to come here to finish his contract. You would have to give up so much it really would not be worth it..Kasper Pelica,Lombardi. And a draft pick.
We have garbage goaltending, mediocre defense and 1 very good but not great center. We can only trade Larkin if we go back to rebuilding. If the Devils don’t get him, Yzerman needs to go get him.
He does NOT want to play for NJ…he wants to play with his brothers…so bring them all over here! Seriously, this team can't keep going with this set of D. It is making me physically sick to my stomach watching them play these past 3 years. Yzerman absolutely s*cks balls in D evaluation: Chiarot, Petry, Holl, Gufs, Haminik, Docker…THEY ARE ALL TRAINWRECKS> Hronek would have been so much better than anything he got back in that idiotic trade. I can't take anymore, and I dont think I will live long enough to see another cup; been a fan over 50 years.
