The defence is killing this team. I hated Tocchet's offensive style, but his defensive style is genuinely what kept us in the WC hunt last year. Our current style allows for more seam passes and puck movement that stretches the defenders out and leaves the slot open.
This organization has never put together a team capable of utilizing Hughes' skill to the fullest. He's in his prime and is a true generational talent and we're squandering him as he is. Trade him and let him realize his skill to the fullest potential. He's up there with Makar but we'll never see it with the squad allvin, rutherford, and aquaman have put together. With the way allvin and rutherford have handcuffed the team with huge contracts for certain underachieving players we literally can't even afford to bring in more complimentary players as a result. Let him be free.
Please rebuild properly for all that is holy, do right by this fanbase for once

With no top 9 nhl calibre Centerman to choose from, id say it was a decent effort. The best thing that can happen is they keep losing games thick and fast. That will guarantee an empty building and a detached fanbase, and then Aquilini loses money. Then they have no choice but to act. Foote is not an NHL calibre coach either. Only thing he could motivate is kids to stay in school by looking at his deformed nose. Man looks like a caveman, and his tactical acumen and deployment of his players this year reflects that. Being balanced however, the roster construction is so poor than he was set up to fail from the onset. Just gotta trade hughes for a centerman, a young d man and 2 first rounders, bottom out and pick in the lottery this summer and start over. As constructed, there is no path to contention possible with this group.
