Wild fan here. We had no idea at all that this was in the works. Props to BG for having the balls to go for it. Yes, it was a top package, but Hughes is a top defenseman. We are very happy but will miss Buium, a great kid and talent. If he doesn't sign a new contract in the summer, he will be traded again by October.

One thought I forgot to mention earlier, I do believe this gives time for Luke to truly grow into his own shoes and become his own person and an elite defenseman. Quinn coming over thru FA would put him at 28, still in his prime, & Luke wont be completely overshadowed by Quinn at that point. It was kind of inevitable that Quinn wouldve taken ice time away from Luke. Starting to have a feeling this will all line up perfectly when his contract is up.
Ace, Michael Russo of The Athletic for the Wild said Guerin admitted there were know discussions regarding an extension. No verbal agreement, nothing. That package is simply not enough to land Quinn long term, not even close. They essentially got Buium (top 4, possibly top 2 dman potential) Rossi who is injury prone & undersized, an eventual middle six player at best & what will be a very late forst round draft pick. Vancouver managment is WILDDDDD. Go watch The Hockey Guys video on the trade, no bigger Canucks fan, who knows his shit and hes beside himself right now. That trade package is laughable to me.
I'm not even remotely upset. I've also been saying for awhile that Quinn was not going to fix everything in NJ and I'd rather try to get him as a UFA when there's more of a need for him (likely would be stepping into Dougie's spot as Dougie is moved out). I would much rather see assets moved for forward depth, for scoring, plug that 3C hole, etc. And these wouldn't be as high a cost as Quinn would be. Yes, it would have been great to land Quinn now, but I'm not losing sleep over it.

I'm glad we didn't trade away pieces for Quinn early, if he comes here as a UFA then great, in the meantime we need a 3C that can also play 2C – go get Ryan O'Reilly. I swear to god if Fitz doesn't make a move to trade some pieces, with all those picks, then he needs to go.
Look at it this way. Would you rather a GM who’s goes big and attempts to win now for two years and deal with it if he doesn’t sign or have a GM who tells you the win window is only just opening year after year until one day your core players are in their 30s and you’ve won nothing and probably missed the olay offs multiple times
Devils could not get him.. we have nothing to offer with the cap.. I love watching your videos, but hopefully you don't think the devils could give up a lot for him when we have no offense up front anymore

Per league rules…The Wild cannot extend Hughes until July 1st 2026. They can also be the only team to sign Hughes to an 8 year extension (including large yearly early bonus like they did with KK97) before the new CBA takes effect September 15 2026. I'm a huge Wild fan and we believe that BG wouldn't make the move without having a deal in place for July 1st. Expecting contract to be 14Mx8yrs

Still think that he would have made the deal with no guarantees of a potential extension because worst case scenario, he can always move him again in the off-season or next year's trade deadline to recoup some assets. There's still hope for us to sign him as a free agent for 2027

Let Quin go to Minny , play for a team that has really been built to win and let him convince his bros to sandbag us until whoever our GM will beat the time sends them there for money, pics and a few pieces and we can start the new rebuild. Calling this a fumble is crazy? Yeah go ahead and trade Nico then bc thats what they wanted. Stop using the GM/coaches as scapegoats devils fans when maybe the core (Nico, Bratt, Timo, Luke) aren't as good as you think they are. If they were youd be 500 without Jack probably better. You had the depth (dadonov, brown, cotter, mercer) and its not working. The fans were PUMPED to get Hamilton, Markstrom and Palat and they're not working out. Now that none of its coming together time to throw the GM under the bus its what sports fans do. The right moves were made and the leaders of this team aren't leading the way. Unless you wanted to outbid the Wild (if we did you'd all be bitching bc it cost your captain and Nemec) then you were flat out not getting Quinn.
Shitzgerald is just bad at his job which we have thoroughly established. There seems to be an issue with NJ being an attractive place to play between the location in Newark and the astronomical State taxes…BUT we finally found a superstar that actually wanted to come here and Shitz couldn’t even pull that off because of the lack of young talent and the salary cap. There is no better indicator of a bad GM than a losing team that is over the cap…very discouraging to say the least. You have to think that Quinn still considers coming in free agency though as Jim Hughes (father) attends Jack and Luke’s games and watches Quinn’s games on his phone simultaneously but like you’re saying you can take it to the bank that Minnesota offers him an absolutely MONSTER contract to stay like they did with Kaprizov.

This team is so fucked. That being said, I think there is still a chance Quinn comes to NJ in 2027. THG did a video about the trade, and said "The Wild gave up all those players, and in my opinion, it still isn't enough!" So that being said, it might be a 2 year rental. Time will tell. Besides, I do not think Quinn would want to come to NJ right now, anyway.
I disagree. Guerin just wants to win a cup. Hes got 2 years with Quinn Hughes, 2 chances to win a cup.

I think Quinn is just a rental for Minnesota because they don’t have the cap space to resign him and when his contract expires he will probably become a free agent and then we will get him from free agency and then he will join his brothers in NJ and play for the Devils. I think the Quinn to NJ dream is still alive.

I am not going to waste my time watching this team. Sorry but for a team to crumble because of 1 to to players make 0 sense. With that kind of set up this team has 0 chance in a playoffs and is going to be eaten alive. For Fitz to give up Quinn should say a lot about everything. I don't think it's Fitz alone it's the ownership of this organization that has given up on it. This is win now team and not a a team to build for couple of years and have a go for the cup. I have not been more disappointed than ever and i am not going to waste my time. Need to find a way to let them know we are not happy so stop going to the games and supporting this team that is on life support the moment one key player gets injured.
