Treliving is awful. Zero evidence that he can build a winning team. Berube's cup win was an anomaly. Other than that one year, he has had perennial early playoff exits or missed the playoffs altogether. Matthews is a pathetic captain and unlikeable. As is most of the team…they are unlikeable. As a fan, there is no one I root for, no one that I love to watch or care about on this team. BLOW IT UP!
Old school coach the problem
I have no idea what I’m talking about,
I’m not in the locker room.. but if I had to take an outside guess.. there is zero leadership, the coach and the captain are supposed to be a tandem leading the locker room and on the ice.. We have no leadership, and we haven’t had any leadership from the players even when Tavares was captain.. Matthews is a great player but he isn’t the guy unfortunately.. This team unfortunately needs a major rebuild, we need to be sellers at the deadline in my opinion..
Get Matthews, Willy and Mo to waive the no moves and get some return while you can, it's been nothing but failure with these guys and it's not about to change anytime soon, now they're no shows for a coach that's tired of the low effort? No more!!!
The Leafs # 1 problem is they have a bad GM. Treeliving pretty much loses on every trade he makes. The only player I like that he acquired is Tanev. The rest are garbage. Just to name a few Domi, Laughton, Maccelli, Joshua, Lorentz , Roy and Carlo have all been busts. They are not even worth paying the minimum wage to play in the NHL. These are all bad players. And then you have a player like Nylander who is not even trying most nights. He gets $11.5 million annually for not doing any work most nights. Tavares works every night. Matthews does not have a line mate to feed him the puck. The Leafs miss Marner. Right now they have no set up man for Matthews. He starves most nights. If I was Keith Pelley I would keep Treeliving on a short leash. He should not be allowed to make a trade. The Leafs need to find a new GM. Someone who actually knows what they are doing. The one they have now is a real dumb dumb. That is their biggest problem. I would fire him and get someone working as an Assistant with another NHL club. Someone young and bright. And make that person the New GM. Because right now they are only going to get worse. I can't watch them anymore. They are a bad hockey team. Real Bad. I watch something else on TV and Not The Leafs. Or I turn off the TV. They are really bad.
The Leafs could not trade the Matthews contact, even if he waived the no trade condition. No other team would pay Matthews $13M+ for what he is today.

During the Matthews era they have changed every player on the team, every coach and management except the core. Same results every single time, same issues year after year. How can it be so hard to see where the issue is? There has only been one constant the last 9 years and that is the core.

Growing up in Southern Canada (Windsor, Ontario), separated by 1 mile (the Detroit River), it was a crime for the NHL to try to force feed us hockey fans the Toronto Maple Leafs. I was first introduced to hockey when our teachers made us watch that 1972 Summit Series, when NHL players battled the Russians. When Paul Henderson left for the WHA, I gave up on the Leafs. So here we are, 1 mile from Detroit, and the merch being sold in stores is Toronto merch. No thanks. I'll stick with being a Detroit fan. Four STanley Cups since 1967, two NBA BAd Boys championship, ! other Pistons championship, 1 World Series victory (1984). But, thanks to the overexposure of the Toronto market thinking all of Canada should support the Leafs, I have the opportunity to sit back and laugh. And yes, I do.
You fail to understand the problem. The coach is not the problem. These are in no way the players that will take you into a second round, if the playoffs at all. Owner, President and a mediocre GM are the problems. Look to them, not the coach. Matthews has been hurt for at least 2 years now, so let him be. Nylander is just there for $11 million, so…

The maple leafs are a bunch of pansy, lazy pretty boys. Nylander is your cancer. Ever since he held out to the last minute for his contract, he has doomed the leafs. Trade Nylander and get a bunch of young high draft prospects like Minnesota did. Tear it down, rebuild without the core 4. It was destined to fail since Nylander broke the bank.
