Matthews’ is tied for 103rd in scoring. Some notables ahead of him? Dylan Strome, Darren Raddysh, Matthew Schaefer, Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan O’Reilly, Bryan Rust, Nazem Kadri, and Mitch Marner. He’s currently on pace with guys like Marcus Johansson and Jack Roslovic… career 3rd liners elevated to the 2nd line.
I’ve been one of the last people to stop believing this team can figure this out because I refuse to believe that a team like this who won the division and was a game away from the conference finals can look like this.

The major problem with Tree demanding other teams' best offer for players is that the Leafs don't have any leverage. The players either aren't good enough to demand a high price, or they're refusing to play for their coach (so, what's to say they won't do the same elsewhere,) so why would a team risk paying a high price? The Leafs are the desperate party here. If the other teams don't trade for a Leafs player, they'll remain in the same position they're in now.
As for the media causing this, I would love for people who say that to explain the high level of competition in all sports in Boston, New York, LA, Chicago, etc. Those markets are way bigger than Toronto, the media are tough on them, too, but they perform and win (you know, other than the Clippers, Giants, and Jets.)

Changing the coach will do little to nothing. Even if they get a different coach this team is still going to be one of the oldest, slowest and softest teams in the league. Also you don't trade a 100 point player, One of the best playmakers in the league and replace him with a couple 3rd and 4th line plugs and not get worse.

Not sure what he's doing now, but, Adam Oates for GM, Coach or Assitant Coach. Somehow get him on your staff. He has a brilliant hockey mind and a Toronto guy. Just my opinion. Remember, everyone raised eyebrows when the Habs hired Martin St Loius with little or no coaching experience. Seems to be working out pretty good. I do feel bad for Chief though, think he's a great guy and smart Coach. Just doesn't have the right lineup, because they choose to be premadonas, not because they can't play his style. They just refuse to play it. Florida doesn't have more talent, they have way better culture. Their leaders lead. other than Tavares, our core guys never have and never will be leaders. It destroyed the culture…years ago. I'm sure Ryan O'Rielly chose not to return for a REASON!

Step away from looking at the team as a fan. Look at them through the eyes of a hockey fan. You will see that they have been doomed since they drafted a kid from Arizona. They chased a hometown kid who had passion for Toronto, for a Swede and an American who just want to get paid. This is what we see.
