Thanks I hate it
Watching live now to just comments as a sharks 🦈 fan
Sherwood is fool's gold
In the past few weeks, Sharks dropped two 4th rounders (Allan/Broissat and Masters trades) and two 2nds, (Sherwood) gotten back a 5th & 7th.
His scoring is up a good bit largely because of his PP time in Vancouver. The Sharks have a lot of PP talent, even if the results have been less than stellar. Having a good d-man to QB the PP would make a bigger difference.
A good add without paying too much. Depth scoring and a hitting machine. Just hope the extension isn’t too insane.
Sharks needed a top 6 power forward, his lack of playmaking won't be an issue on the 2nd line with all the skill they have
Nice trade. No major assets given. But is now and the future. Misa needs to be given the best chance to succeed which includes Eck.
Greer loves mediocre veteran forwards. Seems like we’re loaded with em
Makes me think that a wing might be trade bait, and a rental like Sherwood is just insurance for this year.
Definitely excited this is a great pick up. They need someone that is going to protect all this young talent. I guarantee people are gonna think twice about putting Celebrini into the boards
Two seconds and Cole Clayton is fine to give up, but why acquire another mid forward 😭??
Sharks need defenders, they have 10 middle 6 forwards. WHY??
Now they need to move some of Skinner, Goodrow, Dellandrea, Gaudette, Kurashev, and/or Regenda. Hopefully there is something already in the works, perhaps in a couple of weeks this will look better if they manage to say get two 3rds for Skinner and Dellandrea. For now though its a disappointingly weird pick up, nice that the Sharks are looking to get stronger and try to make the playoffs push real, but the giant hole on defense is still there and now there are less picks to ship out for a top 4 defender.
Reeves is the only forward playing with any physicality. This is a good trade. Especially for the playoff push.
I'm pretty sure a lot of his power play success came with having Hughes QBing the power play. We don't have a Hughes right now. With only Dellandrea, Kurashev and Reaves deals ending after the season you still don't want to block guys coming up from the Barracuda. I was wishing they would blow assets and draft picks on a defenseman. That's where we are really weak. I don't want to have to wait 5 or 6 years for a high draft pick defenseman to develop.
Nice add for the middle six now and the immediate future. It is a sign to the team that they are making a run at the post season. Good analysis.
Sherwood is what you said. A good middle six add. A physical forechecking forward that can score. Will improve PP2. I like the idea of him on the second line, but I think he ends up on the third line.
I think they have a deal in place verbally or they do not make this move. He will be extended or signed sooner rather than later.
It deepens the third line and (like you said) helps Misa a lot as I think he is on the third line.
This does beg the question as what comes next. With the number of players n this roster above what they can have (they have 27 when they are fully healthy) they must make some moves. But who and when?
As to what they still have to make a trade for what we hop they get they have:
They have two firsts, their own second and a fourth in the next draft.
They still have plenty of cap space
All of their pending UFAs and RFAs
Have all their prospects if needed for a move
This does nothing major to hinder getting the RD we are hoping they do. The Fin Factor talked about New York's Braden Schneider. Considering he is 24, six foot 4 214 pound RD. A very physical defensive defenseman that could be a solid second pair defender.
Considering Dickinson and Cags, I think this would be a perfect fit and honestly, Drury owes us after taking Goodrow off their hands (joking kinda). The cost? Not sure, but with what GMMG has in assets doable.
You guys are going to love Keifer. He's a warrior and a class act.
If he plays on any line above the third, it will only hurt the team if and long term. You can’t claim to have the best prospect pool, and then never develop those players at the NHL level. A true playoff push is a year away.
I don’t hate the pickup but the biggest perk to Sherwood is his low AAV, which isn’t a current issue for the sharks right now – 2 second rounders won’t seem worth it if he chooses not to extend, or ends up costing too much.
I agree with Sherwood being fools gold, he is what the Sharks need but he is a average 3rd line player who will be a UFA . Please tell me the Sharks will not overpay for him to stay
As both a Canucks and Sharks fan I am happy and sad. Sad that Vancouver lost a great teammate, a player that plays every game like he's trying out for the team, hits like a freight train, CLEANLY, and has phenomenal energy, and can be moved to different lines seamlessly. This is our loss. I am happy that San Jose gets Sherwood to play alongside Celebrini and Smith. Keep him and pay him! He deserves it! Come on Sharks!!! "2026 Cup Prophecy" is real! Sharks all the way!!!
I think Phillip, Ty, and gaudette get moved to recoup some of the draft capital
got a very under rated player in Sherwood
I think if Sherwood is willing to be extended for 2-3 years, Grier might keep him.
If Sherwood will not extend, he's probably a rental and a team like Colorado or Dallas might be willing to part with a 1st round pick or a D prospect, especially close to the trade deadline.
Right at the deadline, you can probably flip him for more than a couple of second round picks.
Glue guy- you need these types of players come playoff runs
Let’s look awake. Okay video. How many second round picks turn out?
Gave up no prospects in our #1 ranked prospect pool
Granlund, duclair, zetterlund. These 3 pieces I wished Grier didn’t trade away, any chance we get 1 of these back?
I dont hate the player, I understand the player type that Grier likes, but this seems like a waste of assets. Even if they extend him, if they sign him to his projected 5.5M x 5 year extension, there is a significant risk of regression and that contract becoming an albatross.
Kinda bummed because this definitely means there’s no way Reaves gets signed for one more year:(
Not sold on this trade, I think Grier can flip him in a package deal with Ferraro or Liljegren for a prospect/pick upgrade.
I personally like this deal assuming they can a)sign him to a reasonable extension and b)this move doesn't prevent them from making an upgrade at D. Sherwood is the exact type of depth scoring and hard nosed checking they're going to (hopefully) need to win playoff series against good teams. Yeah it sucks giving up draft picks, but the Sharks have loads of young talent at this point and need to make strategic moves to improve right now.
