  1. Poor Scottie didn't get to talk at all … At least he made annoyed facial gestures that completely ignored .. in the same way this comment will be completely deleted. LgrW… Trades aren't going to magically fix this team. I think a hard ass McLelland will be difference maker.. let's see if he can keep the players on their defensive toes… (Keep them from blowing starts and blowing third period leads)

  2. I said this before in a previous episode in the comments, but these are a few targets I think that they should consider on Defense at least:

Alex Vlasic for Chicago (24 yrs old) has 6-year, $27.6 million contract extension on April 25, 2024, carrying a $4.6 million annual cap hit, which locks him in through the 2029-30 NHL season.

Zach Werenski for Columbus (28 yrs old) has a 6-year, $57.5 million contract, carrying a $9.583 million per season cap hit running till 2027-28.

Josh Morrissey for the Jets (30 yrs old) is on an 8-year, $50 million contract with a $6.25 cap hit per season running through to 2027-28.

What you guys think? And as always stay frosty

  3. Rentals, regardless of cost, are not in the best interests of Detroit long-term. No doubt they need blue line help but the pickings are slim right now. If St Louis opts to start selling I'd hope they can work out a deal for Parayko or Faulk.

Not sure what the Sharks are thinking but that was a poor decision giving up what they did just to try and make the playoffs.

  4. I get Colorado looks tough, but they play against MUCH weaker competition on the regular. Detroit may surprise a lot of people.

  5. (i posted this on WW podcast: let's try here to see if it gets hated less lol): i'm wondering if i'm the only one who had this thought. This is strictly from an organizational point of view: Since we aren't there yet (still need a top 4 D and a top 6 F), would trading Gibson at the deadline for a haul be a dumb idea? Talbot and Cossa to finish the year, with Cossa taking the job next year. I'd have to think the return on Gibson would be great (prospects or current young players / not really picks i'm thinking). Rather than push in on someone like Panarin and give away prospects and players, why not get more since we aren't at our window yet. Am i nuts?

  6. A thought i had was the Blues captain Brayden Schenn, who is always liked as a type of player Detroit could need (& Stevie Y does have a history with trading with St. Louis), who is in sure decline, but he would add something diffrent to this team who are in desperate need of grit, physicallity and some winning pedigree and playoff experience. Schenn is 34 and getting paid 6,4 mil, and that is not ideal to take on with 2 years left on his deal. But it would be a positive upgrade from Compher atleast (that would be the guy to even up the cap that i would try to include in the deal, obviously not as the "value" in the deal for the Blues but if they want more value in return it's common for a rebuilding team to take back a "bad contract") and that removes a 3rd/4th liner getting paid 5 mil to add a legit 3rd line center who could play up and down the lineup while providing some needed toughness. Go after Luke Schenn from Nashville while your at it and you get a decent upgrade on your 3rd pair aswell over JBD/Hamonic who also is very comfortable when things are getting more physical during playoff time… It would be temporary fixes, but likely wouldnt cost you much and be a upgrade of what you have atleast. Just a thought, not a groundbreaking move by any means but it would atleast add depth and well needed TOUGHNESS to this team since both Schenn brothers sure are willing combated and it would help our young prized superstar guys like (we saw in last game against Senators that targeted both) Seider & Raymond to play without getting cheapshots each and every game…

  7. I agree on the value of draft picks. A 7-15 draft pick is worth way more than a pick in the 24-32 range. Once we are done building, I will be willing to throw first rounders out there. That being said, I do hope the Wings add at the deadline. Extensions or term being a consideration for premium assets.

  8. I don't get the fixation on Whitecloud. He isn't good. He's basically our AlJo.

Also, Wings nation is just living in fantasy land. These are the prices you are gonna have to pay to get better. Rentals don't typically promise extensions. Players with term beyond two years that might be traded are few and far between.

We're not gonna find that perfect trade, and we need to drop this "No to rentals attitude." You owe it to the team to get something. You can't come up empty. Get ready to feel uncomfortable.

  9. @20:45

Which is it, guys? Is it "make a deal if it only makes sense"? Or "You can't wait around for the perfect deal"?

Because it sure sounds like there are a lot of restrictions you have on what type of deal you want to make. It's really annoying.

  10. Steve will stand pat.
Not because he is just extremely stubborn. But because there are not that many choices and it takes two parties to get a deal done.

Then RW has some opportunities in GR that could potentially graduate from the AHL to the next level. E.I likely will see at least 2 stay for next season, then there are also a few more that have the opportunity.

  11. You guys are delirious. You talk about likelihoods and really what is the likelihood that they will do anything in the playoffs? They have looked average to below average at best. Still struggle mightily with better skilled teams. Steve needs to do a better job in the off-season not during the season. Does him Signing players like JBD and Hamonic give you hope?

  12. And this is why I don't care if the wings sign a free agent this year. Let them get in the playoffs first because once you sign a free agent your cap space is limited and why limit your cap before you make the playoffs.

  13. They don't need to empty the pipeline but Steve needs to make better moves then what he did last year.. He has to realize this ain't last year we could get home ice advantage in the playoffs if the right moves are made and if not this is still a playoff team.. But Steve's job shouldn't be intact just because the Wings make the playoffs..

  14. Trouble is the Redwings don’t need cheap rentals to improve. That kind of player won’t move the needle. Every season the Redwings are linked to numerous players in media reports and nothing comes of it. I think it gets back to Yzerman’s unwillingness to part with quality assets. They aren’t going to get quality for junk

  15. No to Dougie Hamilton. Although to be honest I have no good reason to say that except that his name is "Dougie".

  16. Yzerman will never make a trade for anyone making more than his current highest paid players. So you can dream all you want. That's all it is. Dreams.

  17. Connor Murphy for a conditional second that turns into a first if the wings make it to the Eastern Conference Final

  18. Andersson was not the guy the wings needed, especially for that price. We need 1 or 2 defensive minded d man to solidify the bottom 4. Logan Stanley comes to mind. I like Sherwood as a player, but it’s hard to imagine where he’d fit on this team with the logjam that already exists at forward. I’m excited to see what Yzerman does

  19. Good teams don't schedule watch, but mid teams do. And if we're honest Detroit is mid, despite being near the top. Colorado doesn't schedule watch because they don't need to. Every game is winnable. You don't look at any game that Colorado plays and think "Man, they stole that win."

The Wings aren't that good yet. You have to beat the teams you should beat and a few of the ones you shouldn't. Scotty's take ignores reality.

  20. While the Toronto game is the "most important game" of the ones we play prior to the Olympic break, the Wild and Avs games are great measuring stick games, and they're winnable. In a perfect world, we sweep them all, but in this world, we can absolutely earn ten of a possible 16 points.

  21. The Colorado games will be pretty significant. If Detroit gets completely destroyed, I think that will pump the brakes on a significant trade, or at least a large payment for a trade.

  22. Great episode once again. Love to podcast and the redwings just one question what does 500 mean? Is it 50% or what (btw I’m from Germany so forgive me if it is a stupid question)?

  23. Zach Whitecloud I think is the perfect target. A right shot d-man with no trade protection and two more years left on his contract.

  24. Panarin, Trouba and Whitecloud would put this team in contender status. I’m with Scotty – we need two dmen to bump the bottom pair out and allow them to shelter ASP while keeping him with Chiarot. Panarin on LW1 putting up more than a PPG vastly improves the third line potential as well

  25. Great shgow guy. I have no idea how the Wings will fare in this stretch but I believe the Wings will get a win inb the two games against Colorado. Ray L

  26. Wings aren’t going to trade for anyone, how long do we have to buy into this? The team is performing right now and that’s what Yzerman wants, which means he doesn’t have to give up anything. Not only that, players don’t want to go to Detroit (unless they really want to for example, Quinn Hughes). That’s why we can’t get big names or field trade offers.

  27. Am i the only one who doesent want them to buy or shop pre deadline ? Realistically they are not actually winning a cup this year face it. Why waste your picks or prospects on the push to a cup you wont win … why not let your prospects become more valuable and collect your draft pics so you can maintain being a better team longer. Unless its a very cheap solid d or long term not overpriced d … id rather test the free market and not over pay…
