Yzerman isn't gonna over pay for anybody, and he shouldn't.
If you're going to pay big money for a defenseman. Werenski is the only one that makes sense. Peterson is 178 lb player I think Detroit needs somebody bigger like a Naseem Kadri for Alex tucc

Panarin might be expensive. He has a no move clause, and he can nix any trade and give NYR a limited number of teams he will go to. Depending how small the list is, it can greatly impact the return.
Just a thought perhaps Detroit could pursue a decent D-Man at the trade deadline. I would suggest a few that I think would be a great help to the Red Wings. Ideally it would be Mario Ferraro (San Jose), but there are also cases to be made for Justin Faulk (St Louis), Logan Stanley (Winnipeg), or Dylan Sambeerg (Winnipeg). An interesting possibility is Pavel Mintyukov (Anaheim) that might not be immediate help but more for future years.
I think Whitecloud is a good grab, what's he worth two 2nd round picks? Thats definitely a steal.
