  1. Sometimes you have to take a step backward to go forward. We saw that recently with Barzal when he had India game out. It’s about the long haul, not the short view. Things like laziness from your best players and leaders will trickle down to the younger guys also. Roy did the right thing.

  2. I have no problem with doing that as not back checking just won’t happen on Roy team but looking ahead to tonight (huge game) I would really consider putting Barzal and Horvat together. Offense hasn’t been there and maybe that is the spark this team needs. Thinking lineup could look like this

    Heinemen – Horvat – Barzal
    Duclair – Ritchie – Drouin
    Lee – Pageau – Holmstrom
    McLean- Cizikas – Gatcomb
    Schaefer – Pulock(if hurt Boqvist)
    Pelech – Deangelo
    George – Mayfeild
    Sorokin
    Rittich

  3. Unfortunately, the last 2 games have been evidence of lack of effort. I was at the game vs Buffalo, and they played well in the first period, and then Buffalo woke up, and completely outplayed the Isles. Plus Lyon was really on his game. That’s a bad recipe for a team that struggles to score.

They just didn’t put forth the effort to try to win. Same thing vs Seattle the game before. Obviously this team won’t ever be 100% this season after losing Romanov and Palmieri for the season. Two key players for the team. But that doesn’t stop you from working hard.

  4. Since the days of Barry Trotz, Islanders management has been drilling the same message over and over again with Barzal, be a leader and lead by example, and Barzal has responded by…showing up late for practice…taking shifts off…and not being defensively responsible from time to time. As for Duclair and anyone who watches this team has seen this…he cheats…the minute the puck is in his own zone…he starts creeping towards the blue line. Holmstrom, Ritchie, George, Schaefer are all learning how to be professionals in this league. What kind of message are they getting with that shit going on? Lee got caught in the crossfire…but Roy was 110% right in what he did…it seems some Islanders fans give Roy shit for how he runs this team no matter what he does but I think he is the coach this team needs.

  5. Yeah, lets keep playing Druoin even though he hasn't scored a goal since July4th at a BBQ. But he is French Canadien so he licks his ass.

  6. The game was over after the second period and WATCH Duclair not skate back at all on that second goal. Not scoring is one thing and not showing effort is another. Drouin should sit to change things up but not because he shows no effort. Duclair can go to sleep every so often and it's frustrating. Roy sitting the whole line is more appealing than selectively benching Duclair and then he goes home for 4 weeks (for personal reasons). He knows Lee and Barzal can handle it. The Islanders were not scoring 3 unanswered goals in that game let alone 6 goals. Game over.
