You should definitely trade for Evander Kane and give us Easton Cowan
How much time do you have?
Tavares signing mistake. Under the cba set the market for the core whom out performed him. Ahh comparables.
The mistake was hiring the team killer treliving!!! 1st contract kampf!! Enough said.
Treliving needs to be fired NOW!! OR HANDCUFFED TO DO NOTHING!! Until his replacement is on board. He should have zero to do with a hard sell or rebuild!!
The coach needs to go.
Cowan, Danford, Knies, Robertson, Woll, Hildebeast are the only ones who stay. Nmc sit in pressbox until list is provided.
Major shakeup needs to be done!!
Laughton 🤣
The thing about the soft reset Steve doesn't seem to understand is, bring whoever you want in and ship whoever you want out, when Matthews and Nylander are still here, this team won't have success. Those are the two drivers and they've driven this bus into a brick a wall.
I would seriously consider getting picks and prospects for matthews…cupboards are bare
What could the Leafs get for all of the expiring contracts
What type of haul should the Leafs have after the deadline
Think of the future sweater sales, and ticket price increases. You know, priorities.
RIP IGGY
6 points. They're 6 points out of a playoff spot.
If you're trying to re-stock the cupboard with picks and guys under 21, then you're basically admitting you won't have a competitive roster until Nylander and Matthews are well into thewir 30s.
Point is, just tear it all down.
The leafs would have to pass 4 teams to be part of the playoffs. It looks quite improbable to me.
But who wants to play in Toronto? Get taxed. Have the minutiae of your play analyzed constantly by a sea of nerds. But I guess you do have longer summers. GLG
Here is what EVERYONE conveniently leaves out about Boston's 'retool.'
They traded Marchand for what had a good chance of turning into NOTHING.
I think people forget how monumentally unpopular a lot of the trades were at the time.
Now fortunately or unfortunately most of those trades have worked out well for Boston, but in no way was that guaranteed.
To replicate that, the Maple Leafs would have to trade at least Nylander or Matthews and a top 3 defender. Plus some depth assets.
What I hear Steve saying is, 'Well we don't want to trade anyone good, or that I like, but let's trade a few real underperformers to get back game-breaking talent.
Look at what Marchand did for Florida in the playoffs, and continues to do for them this season. Yet all Boston would have gotten for him, if they hadn't won the Cup, would have been a 2nd round pick.
Would the Leafs be willing to take on that kind of risk?
Don't add, just dump whatever assets you have and start over. This culture ain't it. Everyone can go. That is all that is to be done.
Just ask Flames fans how they feel about Treliving and how he did when he was GM in Calgary hahaha…Who cares if he's a great guy he's not that good of a GM. Being a good guy doesn't equate to success.
So the Leafs lose to Minnesota, Vegas, and Colorado with an OTL to Detroit, and now you are saying to blow up the team? They beat Colorado the week prior and should have beat vegas. Those are 3 of the top teams in the league. Not the time to panic. Buffalo, Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary are the next 4, and are all winnable. Let's see if they can get at least 6 points in the next 4, with an emphasis on tonights game vs Buffalo. If this team falls way off by the trade deadline, then I think it's time to rebuild. Get what you can for expiring contracts and sell off the big boys now or in the off season if they agree, and the price is right. Otherwise, let this team have a run at it. Just don't give up any more of the future.
Went to Bs-Habs on Saturday. The Bruins are not a very talented team.
You all wanted Mitch gone. Careful what you wish for. You traded the heart of your team. You got what you deserve.
All of the changes.
I think the best case scenario is the Leafs tank, retain their pick for the draft because it becomes protected. As part of the tank process, you sell this season and get good value in return. Make decisions about who is the true core of this team and build around them. If Auston, Nylander and Knies are your true core, them everyone else has to be available. We have way too many 30+ dmen who are not 1st-liners. But now is the time to absolutely talk to Matthews and make sure he wants to be here long-term. If not, then bite the bullet and deal with it. Brad seems like a nice guy, but we need a new GM to come in make the tough deals because he's not attached to anyone on the roster.
Rantanen would've never come to Toronto. Why? Taxes.
The MASSIVE elephant in the room is that Brad Treliving will be in charge of this firesale and we all know how that will end. The price paid for Laughton and Carlo was the nail in the coffin.
Just trade those kids, who dont want to be a Leaf in the first place! There are still 2 left…
As a Devils fan, I can empathize. We’re in that middle of the pack trending downwards. At least the Leafs have made the playoffs for the last decade. Our GM has also not chosen a lane and is consistently one of the last GMs to miake an in season move or adjustment so I know nothing will get done either way until the deadline. Two years in a row with almost $9M LTIR when we could abuse the loophole and no moves were made, in fact he paid an extra pick for Anaheim to retain last season then did nothing else. Best thing that can come from this season is cleaning house with management.
Blow it up and rest over the next 3 years. Top to bottom.
No kidding they have to sell. The team they have most likely will not make the playoffs. if by chance they do, they will be out in the first round.
The future of the leafs looks very grim. No first round picks for next three years. The team needs to sell their top assets for high draft picks. Just look at Detroit, Buffalo and Montreal, all are now good teams, built from the draft and farm systems. Leafs are going nowhere as it stands right now.
Trade Stolarz ,Jarnkrok , sign or trade Laughton and McMann . Trade Domi , Reilly gone . Get a mix of young players picks and character players ( Clark, Tucker type )
I think what Dubas is doing over in Pittsburgh is what Toronto need, not a rebuild but a retool.
If Leafs had kept Hyman they would have won the Cup. Leafs need players who can fight, check and score like Hyman. Knies is a keeper. Leafs need to trade all their stars over 25 for draft picks. Treliving will do whatever it takes to keep his job. Long term means nothing to Treliving.
Treliving is a franchise killer (see Arizona, Calgary, Toronto). Fire him today.
Not a Boston retool. We don’t have the first we lost to Boston. Again.
Quinn Hughes is never signing in Canada. So that speculation is silly. They know they have to replace at least some of Marner's points. So, I don't think Leaf's brass is all that surprised that it got harder without those points. I don't think they are terribly worried about their predicament.
Trade away Matthews, Nylander, Woll, Domi, McMann, Benoit for high draft picks and rebuild and rub everything into Shanahan's face.
Laughton 50 percent contract should retrieve a first, Carlo and a 4th might bring back another one. Trading for Lafreniere from New York will fill the Minten void. Anyway, you cut the cheese, Double Back again is appropriate in 2026…🎭
Mathews is the shittiest capt in the league
